Yeah the AFL ius about the star prospects, but it is also about these sorts of prospects. Wheat was drafted in 2022, but only began playing in games in 2024. He has a disusting sinker that got up to 101. He is Rule V eligibile and has only played in A ball, so I am curious how teals handle him. I would think a team maybe takes a chance on him towards the end because you can use him as a low-leverage relief piece because 101 does not grow on trees.
A kitchen-sink approach here for Aiden May, who has two fastballs, two sliders, a cutter, and a changeup. He just throws a ton of pitches and sees which one sticks. He is a decent option to be a five-starter for the Marlins, who have been rather good at maximizing pitchers outside of whatever the heck is going on with Sandy. But May is out here getting in some extra work because he only pitched 27.1 innings in 2025 after returning from elbow surgery in 2025. I wouldn't be rushing out to get May right now, but keep him on your watchlist; if he pops in 2026, he could be a worthwhile gamble, even if the ceiling isn't very high.
He is just the best or the second-best prospect in baseball; he just hits. Maybe the Tigers could have called upon him this postseason as the rest of the offense went ice cold. I would not be shocked if he broke camp with the team; he is ready for the majors. I don't see what a stint in Triple-A would do for him. It is of note that he is playing third base here; I will ask Jacob what he thinks of him over there.
Everyone who has picked Farmelo as their breakout in the AFL has to be excited with what they have seen. All the athleticism seems to be all the way back. He has all the makings of an interesting OF2 or OF3 depending on team construction because the only thing in the profile I am not 100% sold on is the power. But if he can get to 20 homer pop he might be a fantasy star. Farmelo looks to be all the way back from his ACL injury, and that is a welcome development. Also, last night's Mariners-Tigers game sucked, but someone had to lose. It is what it is.
