Eight swings and misses are nothing to sneeze at. A changeup-first reliever is what I envision Liñan becoming, which you can see what I think on the Nationals Top 20 list that is out now. Liñan is a little Johnny Cueto-esque, in that he uses all the tips and tricks to try and get some deception in his delivery and mess with batters' timing. I am excited to see what Liñan does in the AFL because if the changeup gets whiffs and he can limit the damage, and maybe develop a viable third pitch (I know, a tall ask), he has a chance to develop into an interesting back-of-the-rotation starter.
Keep an eye on Mendez; he has a chance to hit his way into top 100 discussions. He hits the ball hard and with optimal angles. I don't think the ceiling is all that high, but he could develop into a solid 20-25 homer bat for the Minnesota Twins. He might be one of the best prospects traded in a while. He has a chance to carve out some playing time as early as next year because have you seen some of the options the Twins have rolled out in the outfield? There is a slight chance we get an Emmanuel Rodriguez, Walker Jenkins, Hendry Mendez outfield next year, which would be exciting for all 3 games they play together.
Farmelo made contact, and it was hit hard (here is me channeling my inner Michael Kay), and it was out at the warning track. Yeah, I know, no fun police, but it is what it is. Farmelo was starting to look like himself towards the end of the season, as recovery from an ACL injury can be tricky. It is one of those injuries where there might be some lingering effects for a full season afterward, especially when you have to regain trust in your leg making dynamic movements like you have to in the outfield. Anyway, Farmelo has a chance to claw his way back into the top 100 with a good showing in the AFL. The buying window was when the injuries happened, but I don't think it would be that hard to acquire Farmelo right now. How often do you get a chance to buy this sort of athlete with power for such a low cost?
