I guess we are just going with back-from-the-dead themes here, because is Cole Mathis back, or is he just taking advantage of the AFL? Like how many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop? The world may never know. Mathis was someone I loved out of the draft because of his power, and I thought he wouldn't struggle at all in the low minors, but the jump from small college ball to Single-A is still pretty large. I know, me liking a first-base prospect—weird. Mathis smashed this ball 425 feet, hitting it 108 mph off the bat.
Anderson has been a revelation for the Tigers, reviving his prospect stock. I am curious to see what the Tigers do with him because he is a second-base prospect, and they have quite a few of them. My guess is they trade him after this season and what he is doing in the AFL. He is routinely squaring up batted balls. At the very least, he could come up and be a leftie masher who also plays semi-everyday against right-handed pitchers. Maybe he and Kerry Carpenter form some mega platoon.
