College Daily Sheet: Friday 04/11/25 - Arms Steal the Spotlight Across the Country
The College Daily Sheet team continues with their non-stop coverage as the Friday slate provided another round of standout performances, late-inning drama, and breakout moments from stars across the country.
I've been following prospects for over 20 years and seen greats like Ryan Howard, Clayton Kershaw, Bobby Witt Jr., and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. play Milb. I cover the High A Midwest League and the SEC.
Friday night delivered fireworks across the college baseball landscape, with arms dominating and bats catching fire in key matchups from coast to coast. In Norman, Harrison Bodendorf turned in one of the most electric outings of the season with a 10-inning, 10-strikeout gem to anchor an extra-inning win, while Tommy LaPour hit triple digits and punched out 11 in a statement performance of his own. Offensively, Sawyer Reeves and Bear Harrison continued their breakout seasons with monster nights, and Antonio Jimenez set the tone early with a no-doubt homer in a high-scoring battle. Meanwhile, in the Midwest, Cade Obermueller carved again with 11 strikeouts, and under-the-radar names like Jack Anker and Blake Gilliespie dominated on the mound for mid-major contenders. As conference races tighten and draft buzz builds, Friday’s action provided another round of clarity, and chaos.
Here are the standout stars from Friday’s action-packed college baseball slate!
Outstanding outing from the duo on the bump for the Fighting Irish, as they combined to blank Boston College in Game 1 of Friday’s doubleheader and push Notre Dame one game above .500 on the season. Jack Radel set the tone with 6.1 strong innings, scattering five singles while striking out one to earn the win. Tobey McDonough came on in relief and slammed the door, tossing 2.2 scoreless frames with three punchouts to notch his fifth save of the year. A clean, efficient effort from both arms that gave the Irish exactly what they needed to open the weekend on a high note.
Alex Hernandez, INF, Georgia Tech - 4 AB, 1 R, 4 H, 3 RBI, 1 HR, 0 BB, 0 K
The freshman continues to shine in what’s becoming a true breakout campaign, as Georgia Tech keeps rolling in the ACC as one of this spring’s slight breakout squads. Hernandez, a potential draft pick last July, chose to honor his commitment to Coach Hall (like many GT signees traditionally do), and that decision is paying off early in his college career.
In Friday’s contest, Hernandez was a force at the plate, blasting a three-run shot to right-center in the fifth inning to give the Jackets a comfortable 6–0 lead. He finished the night a perfect 4-for-4, pushing his home run total to a clean 10 bombs on the season. A strong combination of barrel control, developing pop, and poise at the plate has made Hernandez one of the more exciting freshman bats in the country this spring.
