UC Irvine was able to eliminate 4-seed Fresno State yesterday with a steady output of offense throughout the game. James Castagnola got the game started with a 3-run home run in the 2nd inning, follower in the 3rd by McCombs going yard to make it a 4-0 lead. That was all that UC Irvine would need, going on to win the game 8-3. The pitching did its job, but the staff is starting to get thin for Irvine as they await a Sunday rematch against Arizona State.

The Bruins are in full control of their LA regional after putting up another dominant performance, this time against Arizona State. UCLA once again got off to a blistering start, putting up 7 runs in the first two innings, emphasized with a grand slam by Roman Martin, his second home run in two days. The pitching staff in LA is in great shape, not having to throw any leverage innings so far this tournament. UCLA looks like a force to be reckoned with and a good pick to make a long run in Omaha this year. I also have to shoutout Dean West, the leadoff hitter for UCLA who I played collegiate summer ball with two summers ago, it’s pretty cool seeing former teammates getting it done in regional play this year. UCLA will take Sunday off as they await the winner of ASU and UCI.
