Saturday night was once again ruled by the arms, as dominant pitching performances stole the spotlight across college baseball. From complete-game shutouts to no-hitters and career-best strikeout totals, aces and emerging names alike delivered on the mound in critical matchups. Whether it was locking down conference series, flipping momentum for their teams, or sending loud messages to draft boards, pitchers made it clear that the race to the postseason will run through the rubber.
Below are the top performers from Saturdays slate of games!
Coming into the season, there was a strong case to be made that NC State had the best pitching staff not only in the ACC but perhaps in the entire country, capable of going toe-to-toe with any lineup. Saturday’s contest was a textbook example of exactly that, as Ryan Marohn delivered a masterclass to keep the Wolfpack in it until the offense arrived late to secure a 4-1 win and complete the series sweep.
Marohn was relentless on the mound, tossing eight innings while allowing just five hits and one earned run, striking out five along the way. It marked the second time this season he’s pitched at least eight innings. After surrendering a two-out solo home run in the first to Jarren Purify, Marohn locked in and retired the side in order in back-to-back innings to settle the game down.
On the season, Marohn is now 6-2 with a 3.43 ERA, a 75:18 K:BB ratio, and a strong 10.1 K/9 across over 65 innings of work. He's been everything the Wolfpack hoped for this spring.
Back-to-back daily sheets and back-to-back masterclasses on the mound for the Fighting Irish, as Notre Dame once again rode elite pitching to take control of the series. On Saturday, it was Rory Fox who stepped up in a big way, delivering six shutout innings before handing the ball over to the bullpen to finish the job and keep the goose egg in Cal’s run column.
Fox was nearly untouchable for most of the afternoon, not surrendering a hit until the top of the fifth inning. Even then, after Cal strung together a two-out single and a double, Fox calmly induced an infield groundout to escape the jam and keep the Golden Bears off the board. Notre Dame added another insurance run in the bottom half of the fifth, setting the tone for the rest of the contest. Cal tried to mount a threat again in the sixth with a pair of runners on, but Fox shut the door with back-to-back strikeouts to close out his outing in dominant fashion. On the spring he is 2-3 with a 3.30 ERA and a 9.7 K/9 and should get his name called sometime this July.
Virginia’s 2025 season hasn’t gone quite according to plan. Lofty preseason expectations had the Cavaliers pegged as Omaha contenders, but the spring has been more of a grind than anticipated. Still, UVA has managed to stay afloat and looks destined for a regional berth, even if the path has been a bit bumpier than expected.
One of the bright spots emerging down the stretch has been Bradley Hodges, who delivered a gem on Saturday afternoon to help steady the ship. Making his first career ACC start, the junior southpaw fired a career-best seven innings against Georgia Tech, allowing just two hits and one run while striking out seven to match his career high. After giving up a leadoff double that came around to score on an RBI groundout in the second, Hodges locked in, retiring seven straight Yellow Jackets and allowing just one baserunner over his final 3.1 innings.
It was a masterful performance and notably, the longest outing by any Virginia pitcher this season, a strong sign as the Cavaliers try to build some momentum heading into May.
