This weekend in college baseball showcased elite talent across the country, with thrilling upsets, breakout performances, and dominant displays on the mound and at the plate. Boston College made waves by taking down a top 10 Virginia squad, fueled by Joey Ryan’s shutdown relief and Jack Toomey’s clutch home run. In the SEC, Cody Bowker turned in a masterful performance with 10 strikeouts, while Ryan Moerman powered Ole Miss with two homers and seven RBIs. Meanwhile, the mid-majors delivered some of the most electric moments, as UC Santa Barbara’s LeTrey McCollum completed a walk-off cycle and Middle Tennessee’s Drew Horn etched his name into history with a no-hitter. With statement wins and individual stars emerging, this weekend added another exciting chapter to the 2025 season.

Joey Ryan, RHP, Boston College – 4.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R/ER, 2 BB, 4 K, Win
Boston College stunned #9 Virginia this weekend in Charlottesville thanks to an impressive effort from their pitching staff. Graduate Joey Ryan, who missed all of 2024 due to injury, was integral in Sunday’s decisive game as he went four shutout innings of relief and earned the win over an elite UVA lineup. The victory was Ryan’s first since 2023 when he was a key bullpen piece for an Eagles squad that reached an NCAA Regional final. On the year, Ryan is now 1-0 with a 2.92 ERA and two saves over 12.1 innings of work. He hasn’t started since he was a freshman in 2021, but with Boston College looking for consistency out of their rotation, it could be only a matter of time before the Eagles turn to Joey Ryan. In the meantime, he’ll continue to serve as their bullpen ace.
Jack Toomey, OF, Boston College – 4 AB, 1 R, 2 H, 3 RBI, HR, SB
While Joey Ryan delivered on the mound, it was outfielder Jack Toomey who struck the knockout blow at the plate as Boston College took two of three on the road from a Top 10 Virginia squad. With the game tied in the 3rd inning, Toomey launched a three-run blast to left to give BC a 4-1 lead that they would not relinquish. The Holy Cross transfer would also add a single to left in the 5th and is leading Boston College in hitting with a .395 average over 12 starts. Toomey boasts a 1.043 OPS to lead all regulars and provides the Eagles with outstanding defense in right field.
