I've been following prospects for over 20 years and seen greats like Ryan Howard, Clayton Kershaw, Bobby Witt Jr., and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. play Milb. I cover the High A Midwest League and the SEC.
Another weekend of college baseball brought dominant performances at the plate and on the mound, as rising stars and established hitters continued to make their mark.
Ben Miller continued his power surge with yet another home run, while Alex Hernandez showcased his versatility and offensive firepower with a multi-hit day. On the mound, Wes Mendes remained a force with his third straight eight-strikeout performance, and Ryan Marohn was nearly untouchable with 11 strikeouts over seven shutout innings. Elsewhere, Justin Lebron launched a grand slam, while Landon Beidelschies delivered a strong start to lead his team to victory. As bats heat up and arms settle in, this weekend’s action further shaped the early-season landscape and solidified key players as ones to watch moving forward.

Ben Miller, 3B, Duke – 4 AB, 1 R, 2 H, 4 RBI, HR, HBP
Ben Miller has been displaying the power tool to start the year as heslugged his fourth home run in four games on Sunday afternoon as Duke completed the weekend sweep of Northwestern. The former Penn star now has seven long balls on the year and looks like a lock to surpass his 2024 total of fifteen. Duke trailed the Wildcats 1-0 almost immediately on Sunday before the Blue Devils even had a chance to hit. With two runners on and nobody out, Miller ambushed the first pitch he saw to right center for a three-run blast. He’d later add an RBI after being hit by a pitch to bring his total to nine runs batted in on the weekend.
Wes Mendes, LHP, Florida State – 5.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R/ER, 1 BB, 8 K
Florida State pitching has been dominant all season and Wes Mendes continued that trend on Sunday as the Seminoles remained undefeated following a 4-3 win over visiting Georgetown. Florida State never trailed in the game as Mendes allowed just three hits over five shutout innings. The sophomore southpaw has been a beacon of consistency to start the year, matching his career-high eight strikeouts in every one of his three starts this season. Mendes leads Florida State with a 0.60 ERA and is tied for the team-lead with 24 strikeouts.
Alex Hernandez has played all over the diamond for Georgia Tech to start his collegiate career. He’s started in both corner outfield spots, first base, and second base while making multiple appearances on the mound as well. The freshman phenom enjoyed another strong offensive day as he delivered another double and another home run as the Yellow Jackets run-ruled Western Michigan to complete a weekend sweep. Hernandez is now slashing .313/.382/.708 as a freshman with 9 extra base hits and 15 RBIs.
