Drew Wheeler is a happy man seeing a 3 HR day from his favorite player Keiner Delgado. There was a TON of other standout performances from Wednesday and you can see them all below!
Today's crew: Smada on MLB, Samuel Gomez at Triple-A, Tom Gates on Double-A, Nate Rasmussen on High-A, Rhys White at Single-A, and Alex Jensen finishing up at the Complex.
Major League Baseball
Covered by Smada
💣💣 Nick Kurtz, 1B SAC (MLB)
2-for-5, 2 HR, 2 R, 2 RBI, 2 K
The DOUBLE DONG for Kurtz gives him 3 HR in the last 2 games and 4 HR on the season. Both of these were 430+ ft bombs. Yesterday I had mentioned the contact rates trending up and to exercise patience. Love when the narrative continues the next day.
💣💣 Logan O’Hoppe, C LAA (MLB)
2-for-4, 2 HR, 3 R, 3 RBI, BB, K
Not to be outdone but Kurtz, O’Hoppe sent his 2nd jack 430 ft, but the first one went 470(!!) ft, exiting the Triple-A stadium in Sacramento. He keeps flexing the power and is up to 13 HR and now has a chance for 30 bombs over the full season.
🍔🍟 Zach Neto, SS LAA (MLB)
2-for-5, HR, 2 R, 2 RBI, K, SB
Neto notches HR and SB #8 with this combo meal. Well worth the wait after the early part of the season. Has a 147 wRC+ over his first 30 games.
💣💣 Isaac Paredes, 3B HOU (MLB)
2-for-4, 2 HR, 2 R, 3 RBI, K
Red hot over the last 10 games with 6 HR. The ISO is now close to back in line with his pre-2024 numbers after the Double Dong. Crazy that Paredes is still 26 years old, feels like he’s been around forever.
Matt Shaw, 3B CHC (MLB)
1-for-2, 2B, R, BB, SB
Shaw has 3 games since being recalled and has 5 hits, 3 of them doubles, over 12 PA. He’s also stolen two bags after not grabbing any in his first stint. The Triple-A refresh went great and it looks like he’s taken some of that reset with him back to the bigs.
Tomoyuki Sugano, RHP BAL (MLB)
6 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, BB, 3 K
For all the talk about how bad the Orioles rotation is and that they didn’t go out and pay for someone noteworthy, Sugano is sitting over here with a 3.07 ERA across his first 10 MLB starts. Yeah he probably implodes at some point, but likely a 4 ERA guy when all is said and done. The lack of Ks still kills it from a fantasy perspective. But if you need a QS in a pinch, Sugano is your man.
Brant Hurter, LHP DET (MLB)
3 IP, H, BB, 2 K
Hurter got to start the bullpen game for the Tigers and looked solid in the process. He only worked up to 37 pitches and he’s probably not getting stretched out. On the season he’s done well out of the bullpen but I’d still love to see him get an actual chance as a starter.
🍔🍟 Leody Taveras, RF SEA (MLB)
2-for-4, HR, R, 2 RBI, SB
A combo meal for Taveras was much needed here. Since he was DFA’d by the Rangers he’s been even worse with the Mariners over 13 games. That said, he’s starting nearly everyday and that’s worth some small value in deep leagues.
Tim Elko, 1B CHW (MLB)
1-for-4, HR, 2 R, RBI, K
Elko has done about what we expected of him so far, showing power with 3 HR over 10 games, but not doing much of anything else. Under the hood things actually look pretty decent over the small sample. Don’t expect too much but I think he’s better than his current line indicates.
Tylor Megill, RHP NYM (MLB)
4.2 IP, 4 H, ER, BB, 10 K
Frustrating that Megill couldn’t make it through the 5th but he was electric overall. Two infield singles then a HBP loaded the bases. Megill surrendered a SF to score to tie it up with his only ER. Then his only walk of the evening loaded up the bases again. Huascar Brazoban came in and saved Megill from the potential of some more ER on his ledger. He’s up to a 31% K through his first 10 starts.
💣💣🍔🍟 Jake Burger, 1B TEX (MLB)
3-for-4, 2 HR, 2 R, 2 RBI, SB
Ever since Burger’s 6 game Triple-A reset he’s been mashing with a .344/.382/.688 slash over 34 PA. Most notably the swing and miss has looked significantly better.
Daulton Varsho, CF TOR (MLB)
1-for-5, HR, R, 4 RBI, 2 K
The good? Varsho is back healthy and mashing with 7 HR over 65 PA. The bad? Increased O-Swing% and decreased Z-Contact% leading to a 4.6% BB and 35.4% K.
Nathan Lukes, LF TOR (MLB)
3-for-4, HR, 2 R, 2 RBI
With a long string of facing righty starters, Lukes has played nearly everyday in the last 2 weeks. Over that time he’s had 40 PA with 3 HR and a 148 wRC+. He’s only had 218 career PA over his career across 2024/2025 but the 11.5% BB and 14.2% K stick out in a very positive way. His .177 ISO this season is the highest mark at any stop of any length over his 11 year career (which says a lot). The 4 balls he’s put over the fence have been pulled and this one wasn’t a monster shot but wasn’t a cheap one either. I can’t help but be reminded of Spencer Horwitz last season who also had great plate discipline numbers and exceeded his HR expectations to the pull side. Lukes however is 30 years old and the swing speed is a couple ticks lower on average than Horwitz. Anyway, I think you could do a lot worse in deep leagues than Lukes who is only 7% rostered on Fantrax. At the very least he should put up a solid BA/OBP when he plays.
🍔🍟 Trea Turner, SS PHI (MLB)
2-for-5, HR, 2 R, RBI, K, SB
Everything is working well for Turner outside of getting the ball over the fence, but he did it in this game for his 3rd of the season. It’s clear the bat speed is on a steady downward decline while the Barrel% and HardHit% are current career lows. He’s still valuable as a .275 BA, 15 HR, 30 SB player, but it’s hard to see that heading in a different direction over time. Could he cheat a little pull-side to sacrifice the BA? Maybe? Either way, Turner is a win-now profile player.
Triple-A
Covered by Samuel Gomez
‼️ Nick Margevicius, LHP DET (Triple-A)
6 IP, 2 H, BB, 7 K
Margevicius excels by limiting walks and letting the opposition hit balls weakly into the air. He threw his fastball two-thirds of the time in this outing and it made up an even more absurd 34 out of 35 total pitches to lefties. Some regression may be coming, however, as he’s been giving up a lot of loud contact and has a HR/FB ratio of only 5.3%, an extreme career outlier.
🍔🍟 Ronny Mauricio, DH NYM (Triple-A)
2-for-2, HR, R, 2 RBI, 2 BB, SB
Mauricio has played games in A-ball, Double-A, and Triple-A this season, due to recovering from a torn ACL he suffered in late 2023. In three games with Syracuse, he’s 7-for-11 with two homers and looks like he could provide reinforcements to the Mets offense if he maintains this success.
‼️🔜 Paul Blackburn, RHP NYM (Triple-A)
7 IP, H, 2 BB, 6 K
Blackburn had his best and longest rehab start of the season for Syracuse. He threw six different pitches over 10% of the time and looks to be fully recovered from a knee injury that’s kept him away from the majors this season. With a group of five starters already locked into the rotation, the Mets could use Blackburn as a swingman or keep him as a starter in Syracuse that can fill a major league rotation spot if needed.
Hurston Waldrep, RHP ATL (Triple-A)
6 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 9 K, HR
Waldrep’s final line wasn’t anything spectacular, but his secondaries were disgusting. His slider, curveball, and splitter ran a combined whiff rate of 50%. In his last three starts, he’s thrown at least five innings, given up two earned runs or less, and struck out six or more. If his fastball was better, he’d have quite the ceiling on him.
