Major League Baseball
Covered by Greg Hoogkamp
‼️ Tarik Skubal, LHP DET (MLB)
7.0 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 12 K
Skubal was nearly unhittable Friday (perfect game going into the 6th) lowering his ERA to 2.08. Skubal had 32(!) whiffs vs. a Rangers lineup that has struggled this season. This is the highest whiff total in MLB since 2023 and a new Tiger record. Skubal looks to be the favorite for AL Cy Young once again.
‼️ Erick Fedde, RHP STL (MLB)
9.0 IP, 6 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 8 K
Fedde delivered the first Cardinals CG/SHO since 2022 (Montgomery 8/22/22). Fedde is the prototypical Cardinals starter: an innings-eater who gets ground balls (41.5 GB%). His 4.1 K-BB% leaves a lot to be desired in the strikeout category and might be a sell-high candidate after this start if you have pitching depth.
👟 Jackson Chourio, CF MIL (MLB)
3-for-5, R, K, 2 SB
It looks like Chourio is starting to heat up with hits in 5 of his last 6 games. When Chourio gets on base he is a threat to run; his 3-hit/2 SB performance Friday night was certainly encouraging. Chourio’s 1.8 BB% is a bit concerning (especially in OBP leagues), but don’t sound the alarms, he’s an elite talent and learning quickly.
🍔🍟 Francisco Lindor, SS NYM (MLB)
3-for-5, HR, 2 R, RBI, K, SB
Lindor started the game with a bang launching a 92 mph Jameson Taillon fastball out to right-center. He later added two more hits (including 2 BBE over 100 mph) and a steal. Lindor continues to be a trustworthy five-category contributor.
Angel Martinez, CF CLE (MLB)
2-for-3, HR, 2 R, 2 RBI
Martinez has been really solid for the Guardians and is playing nearly everyday. He won’t provide a ton of power, but popped a homer on Friday night elevating him to a .783 OPS and 122 wRC+. He’s a solid deep-league option with IF/OF eligibility.
‼️ Michael Lorenzen, RHP KCR (MLB)
7.0 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 7 K
Lorenzen toyed with the Red Sox hitters Friday night piling up 7 Ks over 7 shutout innings. His changeup was dominant, getting 11 whiffs on just 17 swings (73% whiff rate). Lorenzen has become a must-start in all league formats for all matchups and probably didn’t cost you much to acquire before the season.
👟 Jesus Sanchez, RF MIA (MLB)
2-for-4, RBI, K, 2 SB
Sanchez is known more for his massive exit velocities (he popped a 111.5 mph BBE on Friday), but he put his wheels on display in this one, swiping two bags. Sanchez is the ultimate “what-if” player because all the tools are there. He’s still just 27, but he will need to show more consistency before we can consider him anything more than a role player.
‼️Chris Paddack, RHP SEA (MLB)
7.1 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 6 K
It started out really ugly for Paddack this season (9 ER in 3.1 in his first start), but since then Paddack has been pretty reliable. Over his last 7 starts, Paddack has thrown 36.1 innings and posted a 2.97 ERA with 28 K and 12 BB. He’s never really gotten back to the strikeout numbers he had as a rookie, but he’s turning into a trustworthy backend rotation option.
Jackson Merrill, CF SD (MLB)
3-for-5, 2B, R, 2 RBI, K
This kid is an incredible talent and has hit the ground running since returning from injury (7-for-14 with a HR and 2 doubles). His hit-tool is top of the scale and he provides 15-20 steal upside. He also does this playing an elite CF (a position he really hadn’t played before). He’s as trustworthy as they come.
Manny Machado, 3B SD (MLB)
3-for-4, 2B, 2 R, RBI, K
Like a fine wine, Machado continues to age gracefully. A couple of seasons ago, I thought his skills were beginning to deteriorate, but he’s proven me and many other doubters wrong by putting up vintage-Machado numbers again in 2025. In many ways Machado has shown improvement bumping his barrel and hard-hit rates to elite levels. Three more hits for Machado on Friday night; he’s still a star.
Ryan McMahon, 3B COL (MLB)
3-for-5, HR, 3 R, RBI, K
Why Ryan McMahon is still on the Rockies roster is a head-scratcher, but this is not the forum to question the Rockies’ decision making. McMahon is a solid CI option in most formats and should end up with his typical .240 BA and 20 HR output for your dynasty team.
Hunter Goodman, C COL (MLB)
3-for-5, 2 2B, 2 R, RBI, K
I’m sure glad I checked out Goodman’s Savant page. His surface stats show a struggling slugger with just one home run to his name so far. However, under the hood there is a lot to like here. Goodman has a career high hard hit rate (45.9%) this season and he is chasing less than ever (34.4%). The dearth of extra base power comes from an inability to maximize his batted ball angles. His 23.5 degree sweet spot angle and 10.2% pop-up show a real opportunity for power growth as we hit the warmer summer months. Goodman is a “buy” at this point.
Gunnar Henderson, SS BAL (MLB)
2-for-4, HR, 3B, R, 2 RBI, BB
Henderson hasn’t quite looked like himself at the plate this season; he’s not walking or barreling the ball like he normally does. The first nine days of May have looked a lot better for Henderson (.357/.419/.571) so there’s no cause for concern. He’s an MVP caliber hitter.
‼️Tomoyuki Sugano, RHP BAL (MLB)
7.1 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 K
Sugano has delivered everything you could possibly have asked for coming over from the NPB this offseason. He now holds a 2.72 ERA, 1.01 WHIP by mixing six offerings between 12 and 24%. He’s a perfect backend rotation option and fantasy owners are reaping the rewards.
Shohei Ohtani, DH LAD (MLB)
3-for-6, HR, 2 2B, 2 R, 4 RBI, 2 K
Another Hollywood moment (in Phoenix) for Shohei as he delivers a go-ahead three-run homer to give the Dodgers a 14-11 lead (and ultimate win) in the ninth. After a slow return from paternity leave, Ohtani has hit in 12 of his last 13 games pushing his OPS up over 1.000 (1.063). Another MVP coming?
Kike Hernandez, 2B/3B LAD (MLB)
3-for-5, HR, 2B, 3 R, 2 RBI
One wonders what Kike might have looked like had he been a second division regular in a different life. I remember pondering who the little guy was blasting BP homers off the restaurant in CF at Rogers Centre back in 2016 when the Dodgers visited the Jays. Hernandez will take the two (and counting?) rings as a role player while providing games like this where he looks like a stud. He’s too inconsistent to be a reliable regular, but can be valuable in deep leagues due to his versatility.
💣💣 Ketel Marte, 2B ARI (MLB)
2-for-3, 2 HR, 3 R, 2 RBI, 2 BB
After missing nearly a month, Ketel is back producing at an elite level. Friday night was his best game of the season; his two home runs were absolute rockets (113.1 and 113.0 mph). Marte is up over a 50% hard hit rate (52.5%) once again; he’s an elite talent at the keystone.
Eugenio Suarez, 3B ARI (MLB)
2-for-3, HR, 2B, 3 R, 3 RBI, 2 BB
Suarez is currently my least favorite player based on what he did to my home league team (eliminating me with a dramatic bomb on Sunday Night Baseball) in the semi-finals last season. Hopefully you have him rostered in your leagues because he’s now up to 11 homers with a 17.3(!) barrel rate. Suarez is one of the streakiest home run hitters out there so expect a drought or two, but he can also carry your lineup for stretches. He’s a must-start in all formats.
‼️ Will Warren, RHP NYY (MLB)
7.1 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, BB, 7 K
As much as it pains me to say this, the Yankees don’t get enough credit for their pitching development. Warren looks to be another win for the organization and he delivered the best game of his career on Friday night. He pitched into the 8th against the Athletics in Sacramento, inducing 13 whiffs with a 67.8% strike rate. The Yankees will need more outings like this with Cole and Gil out long term.
💣💣💣 Jasson Dominguez, LF NYY (MLB)
3-for-4, 3 HR, 3 R, 7 RBI, K
Speaking of career games, Jasson Dominguez delivered a Throng of Dongs launching three (100.4, 111.9 and 98.6 mph) home runs, including a grand slam carrying the Yankees offense to a 10-2 victory. Dominguez is hitting the ball extremely hard (52.1% hard hit rate) and at decent angles (9.9% barrel rate), but is still whiffing (31.4% whiff rate) a ton leading to an elevated strikeout rate (30.6 K%). He’s had trouble with spin so far this season (43.6% whiff vs sliders and 48.6% whiff vs curveballs) meaning he will need to make some adjustments to find his next level. He’s very talented and has great hitting minds around him everyday so it’s a matter of when, not if.
Triple-A
Covered by Will Thompson
‼️ Jacob Misiorowski, RHP MIL (Triple-A)
6.2 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 11 K
