Taylor’s call up was somewhat of a surprise as he transitioned to just single-inning relief appearances less than a month ago and was still in Double-A. While he didn’t strike anyone out he displayed electric stuff with the fastball averaging 100.5 mph and maxing out at 101.5. It’s pretty easy to see Taylor ending up in the closer role eventually and could end up similarly to Mason Miller and stick in the bullpen.
Brant Hurter, LHP DET (MLB)
2.2 IP, 2 H, ER, 3 K
Sawyer Gipson-Long, RHP NYY (MLB)
4.2 IP, 3 H, ER, 5 K
Idk why but this combo of Hurter and Gipson-Long just feels like the future of baseball where you are piggybacking two starters outside of your aces.
Spencer Torkelson, 1B DET (MLB)
1-for-4, HR, R, 2 RBI, BB, 2 K
Tork came back down to earth but the overall numbers are still solid with 16 HR in 273 PA and a 136 wRC+. Won’t ever be a huge BA guy but the walks and power are great in OBP leagues.
Jackson Holliday, 2B BAL (MLB)
2-for-4, 2B, 2 R, K, SB
Mental note: just give 20 year old MLB players some time to adjust. Holliday’s leading off and just swiped his 6th bag. The in-zone contact we were worrying about last year has risen substantially and there’s still plenty of power to grow into.
‼️ Andrew Abbott, LHP CIN (MLB)
9 IP, 3 H, BB, 5 K
Wow. A CGSO from Abbott who has been on a mission this season. He now holds a 1.87 ERA through 11 starts with a 3.28 FIP and 3.95 xFIP. Being a FB pitcher he relies on HR suppression s o
Slade Cecconi, RHP CLE (MLB)
5 IP, 4 H, ER, BB, 8 K
Outside of the homers, Cecconi has been pretty solid since joining the rotation. Probably no more than a spot-starter fantasy wise though.
‼️ Sandy Alcantara, RHP MIA (MLB)
6 IP, 3 H, BB, 6 K
That trade value just shot up. No way Alcantara’s not getting moved if he stays healthy. This was his first scoreless outing of the entire year.
💣💣 Ian Happ, LF CHC (MLB)
2-for-3, 2 HR, 2 R, 3 RBI
Happ has been more or less the same player minus some HRs and he gain a couple back with this Double Dong day.
‼️ MacKenzie Gore, LHP WSN (MLB)
6 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 6 K
Out of all the pitchers I moved up in the latest dynasty ranking, Gore was the one I shoved up the most. He looks legit this time. Do we say that prospect rankings were right or wrong on Gore?
Evan Carter, CF TEX (MLB)
3-for-5, HR, R, 2 RBI, BB, 2 K
Back to back games with a HR for Carter who is in just his 7th bame back from an IL stint. It’s a small sample of big league PA for him, but the K% is encouraging after struggling in Triple-A. He’s got to be one of the most volatile profiles for a dynasty between the upside, downside, platoon status and injury history at just 22 years old.
Wyatt Langford, LF TEX (MLB)
2-for-6, HR, R, RBI
Langford’s been having a rough go of it at the plate so we’ll see if this gets him back on track. Since May 1st has slashed .191/.268/.346.
‼️ Quinn Priester, RHP MIL (MLB)
6 IP, 7 H, ER, 7 K
That’s now 3 (would be) QS in the last 4 outings for Priester. This is only his 2nd game with more than 4 Ks though. He’s running a 57.5% GB which is going to keep the floor high, but the lack of Ks really hold him back from being useful outside of deeper leagues.
Willy Adames, SS SF (MLB)
1-for-3, HR, 2 R, 2 RBI, BB, K
It’s been a rough year for Adames and this is just his 6th HR of the season. Where did the bat speed go? Is he nursing an injury we don’t know about? I tried not to overcorrect on him too much in the dynasty ranks but it’s a tough buy-low.
‼️ Jose Soriano, RHP LAA (MLB)
7 IP, 2 H, ER, 2 BB, 12 K
After a clunker last time out, Soriano spun a gem against the Sactown A’s. The K:BB looks rough but the 66.5% GB is insane. I probably dropped him too much in the dynasty ranks.
‼️ Dylan Cease, RHP SD (MLB)
7 IP, 3 H, 5 BB, 11 K
We’ve got to look past the ERA and see that he’s just been BABIP’d to death so far. FIP/xFIP in line with last season.
Triple-A
Covered by Nate Rasmussen
💣💣Daniel Susac, C ATH (Triple-A)
3-for-3, 2 HR, 3 R, 5 RBI, BB
Double Dong Danny Susac! Daniel is an interesting case, but he looks primed to be a really good backup catcher for a long time. The former first round pick has a hit tool that lags behind some of his other skills, but he’s a good enough defender to warrant backup reps in Sacramento soon.
