Marcelo Mayer, 3B BOS (MLB)
1-for-3, HR, 2 R, BB, K
Mayer homered off of Mariners arm Luis Castillo. Mayer’s slash line is sitting at .220/.277/.475 and he’s swatted four homers in his first 21 games. All the power metrics in the early going look strong, and its backed up by above-average bat speed. He is expanding the zone a bit in the early going, but I think that is something he will reign in a bit. He struck out at less than a 20% clip this year in the minors and I’d expect him to settle in around 22-23% in the big leagues. He’s up over 30% right now. He’s a buy for me with the Devers trade as well.
Garrett Crochet, LHP BOS (MLB)
6 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 8 K
An outstanding outing for Crochet, who has pretty much been who we thought he was supposed to be after the trade to the Red Sox. It’s nice when things work out that way. Top 3 dynasty arm for me.
Bryson Stott, 2B PHI (MLB)
2-for-3, HR, 3 RBI, BB, K, SB
Five homers and 12 steals thus far for Stott, and all of the sudden it looks like his 2023 season was the outlier. Every other year from Stott has been pretty similar, so expecting anything other than something like .240/.305/.350 seems more hopeful than anything.
Adam Mazur, RHP MIA (MLB)
5 ⅔ IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 4 BB, 5 K
This was his first big league appearance of the season and well he tried his best to navigate one of the best lineups in baseball. Mazur is short on stuff, and normally shows good command but he was giving up some hard contact and began to nibble a little bit. The upside is essentially nothing, but Mazur seems like a candidate for a lot of big league time as we approach the trade deadline, and especially after.
Jordan Beck, OF COL (MLB)
2-for-4, HR, 2B, K
Beck is really fun, and is as tooled up as anyone, showing big power, good speed and a strong throwing arm. Yeah, the plate skills are a bit of a mess but he’s still developing as a player since getting drafted in 2022 out of the University of Tennessee. Beck’s quality of contact could improve, and when it does he will take his game to a different level offensively. Could he be a Tyler O’Neill that actually stays on the field? I’m in for that.
Mitchell Parker, LHP WSH (MLB)
6 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 8 K
Parker has long been a favorite of mine since coming out of San Jac and I’m glad to see him in the big leagues and pitching well. This is an absolute tough luck loss here, and the only run he surrendered was a sixth inning homer by Michael Toglia. He’s a unicorn and the lefty gets huge extension and features a splitter.
Seth Halvorsen, RHP COL (MLB)
1 IP, 2 K, SV
Roster at your own risk, but saves are saves. Five saves for a team with 17 wins is pretty solid work for Halvorsen.
Jack Kochanowicz, RHP LAA (MLB)
5 ⅓ IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 8 K
A solid outing from the new Dakota Hudson. That’s how you know the Yankees offense is struggling a bit. I can’t recommend Kochanowicz in any fantasy format right now, outside of the 30-teamers.
Addison Barger, OF TOR (MLB)
3-for-4, 2 2B, R, RBI, BB
Barger appears to be the number two hitter now for the Jays with Vladdy moving to the three spot. Barger has really busted out this year, showing out with regular playing time. He’s hitting .311/.371/.604 with seven homers over the last 30 days and has that nifty 3B/OF/CI eligibility.
‼️Chris Sale, LHP ATL (MLB)
8 ⅔ IP, 5 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 7 K
Ace. The Braves have come out and said they aren’t trading Chris Sale at the deadline, which is a smart move. This is the type of roster I’d be ok with running it back with next season, but just let Ozuna go and use the DH more of a spot where they can rest their guys and not commit to a regular dude. Sale is a stud.
Coby Mayo, 1B BAL (MLB)
0-for-3, 2 K
I think its time to have some uncomfortable conversations. Despite having a quick bat Mayo’s swing length is really getting him in trouble this year. The average swing length per statcast is 30 inches. Mayo is over a foot longer, at 42.9”. If he was qualified this would give him the third longest swing in the big leagues, and the longest for any right-handed hitter.
Junior Caminero, 3B TB (MLB)
4-for-5, 2 R, 2 RBI, K
Love me some Caminero. A nice four-hit game for the kid. I don’t roster him anywhere this year, which makes me sad.
Maikel Garcia, 3B KC (MLB)
3-for-4, HR, 3B, 2 R, 4 RBI
This is another strong breakout season. The Royals were aggressively trying to get involved in the Nolan Arenado sweepstakes this off-season but were repeatedly rebuffed since they weren’t on his approved list of destinations. I’m sure Garcia would’ve slid to CF or 2B, and his versatility is something to watch as the Royals figure out how they want to manuever the deadline with two glaring needs, CF and 2B.
