Just a short slate of MLB and Complex leagues games yesterday for the Daily Sheet. We'll be covering the Dominican Summer League (DSL) in it's own separate post weekly, the first of which released earlier today:
Kerry Bonds hits a Throng of Dongs. Man, the headlines write themselves around here. The man, the myth, the legend continues to destroy RHP and sit against lefties. Carpenter is enjoying some contact developments, but they’ve come with an increased Swing rate leading to lower OBP than expected. A fun stat, when we combine this year and last, he’s hit 31 HR over just 143 games and 511 PA for 147 wRC+. Just a shame he doesn’t play regularly against LHP.
💣💣 Hunter Goodman, C COL (MLB)
3-for-5, 2 HR, 3 R, 3 RBI, K
Goodman had been ice cold with a -14 wRC+ over the last 14 games and a Double Dong is a heck of a way to break out of the streak. Although the seasonal line has him as a .273 hitter everything points to that regressing. Doc highlighted Goodman about a week ago in his Sunday Smoke article warning about the bottom falling out of the profile. This game re-opens a selling window you may not get again.
Max Meyer, RHP MIA (MLB)
5 IP, 10 H, 5 R (4 ER), BB, 5 K
Meyer went from looking like a premium asset to a pumpkin pretty quick. Reminds me a bit of Taj Bradley last year, although his rise and fall was closer to mid-to-late season. Since Meyer’s 14 K game, he’s run a 7.01 ERA, 6.11 FIP, 4.43 xFIP and a paltry 8.5% K-BB.
💣💣 Jo Adell, CF LAA (MLB)
2-for-4, 2 HR, 2 R, 2 RBI, K
The Jo Adell Double Dong gives him 3 in the last 3 games, and 9 on the season. The stat line now resembles 2024 pretty closely. Somewhat notable, the K% over the last 15-20 games is the best span of his career due to increased contact and reduced chase. He’s had hot streaks where he’s been somewhat locked in like this before but I’m down to have him fool me again. The bummer in Adell’s fantasy profile this year is the absence of SB. Without them he’s a plus power, bad everything else guy. Which is not all that useful.
Mike Trout, DH LAA (MLB)
3-for-4, HR, R, 3 RBI
Trout is back to doing Trout things, but Ron Washington has him doing it out of the 5 hole in the order which is among the most ridiculous things I’ve seen in my life. Anyway, Trout is 8-for-14 since returning and now has 10 HR on the season.
