Major League Baseball
Covered by Smada
💣💣💣 Kyle Stowers, LF MIA (MLB)
5-for-5, 3 HR, 4 R, 5 RBI
Stowers has had some high high and low lows this season but over the last 3 weeks it’s back to the high with 9 HR over 75 PA and a 259 wRC+. The Throng of Dongs all came off BAL RHP Brandon Young. I’ve been personally skeptical given the amount of swing and miss, but the ability to barrel the baseball is really impressive. He's an incredibly difficult player to gauge the value of in dynasty.
‼️ Eury Perez, RHP MIA (MLB)
7 IP, 3 H, 6 K
Incredibly, Eury has only allowed just 7 baserunners over his last 3 starts with just 1 walk. He continues to display everything that was promised as a prospect and young pro before the injury.
‼️ Brayan Bello, RHP BOS (MLB)
6 IP, 6 H, ER, 5 K
Called Bello a sell the last time he pitched and this just continues to bolster the value before the trade deadline. He’s got a 2.61 ERA since the start of June with 7 QS in his last 8. However he’s still rocking a 7 K/9 over those starts.
Ceddanne Rafaela, CF BOS (MLB)
1-for-3, HR, R, RBI, K
One of the hotter players on the planet since the turn of the month into July. That’s Rafaela’s 5th HR over 42 PA and a 256 wRC+. The swing and miss is at its lowest point over a 30 game period since he came into the league.
Cole Young, 2B SEA (MLB)
2-for-4, HR, R, RBI, K
Young got his 2nd HR of his… young career on a Tommy Kahnle changeup in the 9th. There’s been a lack of power throughout the minor leagues for Young but the 113.4 Max EV shows the potential. He’s undergoing the rookie adjustment period so there’s a decent buy-low opportunity here in BA leagues.
‼️ Noah Cameron, LHP KC (MLB)
6.2 IP, 7 H, 2 BB, 8 K
Cameron continues his impressive rookie campaign and lowers the ERA to 2.31 over his first 12 starts. The ERA estimators of 3.67 FIP and 3.94 xFIP show the risk of valuing him at his current performance. Similar to Bello, there is a selling opportunity, but obviously you should get a little more given the age.
Jackson Chourio, CF MIL (MLB)
1-for-4, HR, R, 3 RBI, 2 K
Chourio’s been a little disappointing after a huge 2nd half last season, but he still finished the 1st half of 2025 with 16 HR and 16 SB, with ROS projections expecting a 25/25 season.
Nick Kurtz, 1B SAC (MLB)
2-for-4, HR, 2 R, 2 RBI, K
Insane finish to the 1st half as his HR total reaches 17 in just 235 PA. He’s homered in 3 of the last 4 and 5 of the last 10 games. There’s still some whiff, but he’s also taking his walks to even it out. Keep going back to how fun this offensive core is for the Sacramento A’s.
Triple-A
Covered by Trevor Hooth
Tyler Locklear, 1B SEA (Triple-A)
2-for-3, 2B, 3 R, RBI, 2 BB
I’m no expert, but it seems like Tyler Locklear has earned another try in the big leagues. He’s hitting .309 on the season and has been showing more power lately. Yes, it’s the PCL, but there isn’t a reason not to give him another shot right now. In July he’s hitting .447 with 3 homers paired with 7 walks and 11 strikeouts in 47 at bats.
💣💣 Adrian Del Castillo, C ARI (Triple-A)
4-for-5, 2 HR, 2 2B, 2 R, 6 RBI, K
It was a nearly perfect day for Adrian Del Castillo. Double dongs and double doubles to boot! He was working as a DH in this game. Any day you can put up 6 RBIs, you did your job at the plate. He now has four bombs and four doubles while hitting .288 through 59 at bats in Triple-A this year.
‼️ Ben Brown, RHP CHC (Triple-A)
5.0 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 5 K
This was an encouraging start. In 79.1 big league innings Ben Brown posted a 25.3 percent strikeout rate and a 7.5 percent walk rate, but he just gave up too many runs. Between the strikeouts, opponents hit .287 against him. He isn’t out of the Cubs plans, but he’ll need to prove he can limit the opposing offense, which he did in this game.
‼️🔜 Zebby Matthews, RHP MIN (Triple-A)
4.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 9 K
So it’s probably safe to say that Zebby Matthews rehab is going well. Only a single hit allowed and 9 of the 12 outs recorded were via the strikeout? Hopefully this is a sign that he’ll be able to bring his 5.21 big league ERA down in a hurry once reinstated.
👟👟 Hao-Yu Lee, 3B DET (Triple-A)
2-for-3, 3 R, 2 BB, 4 SB
Chandler Simpson, who? Meet baseballs newest mega speed threat, his name is Hao-Yu Lee. This speed base threat now has *check notes* 15 stolen bases on the year. All jokes aside, four stolen bases in a game is very impressive, I don’t care who you are. Lee hasn’t had the huge breakout year we were expecting, but he’s hitting .246 with 9 homers and 15 steals through 293 at bats.
‼️🔜 Sawyer Gipson-Long, RHP DET (Triple-A)
4.2 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 K
Another rehabbing starter who looks excellent. Other than a walk, this was a nearly perfect outing for Sawyer Gipson-Long. He got up to 59 pitches in this one. There’s a spot for him in that Tigers rotation, as they will likely sent Keider Montero back to Toledo once SGL is ready to go.
Rich Hill, LHP KC (Triple-A)
5.0 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 4 BB, 10 K
I’ll be honest, I don’t know what the Royals are waiting on with this prospect. He’s already 45-years-old, which is slightly old for the level, and he’s putting up double digit strikeouts. The ageless wonder is showing his age, he has a 5.63 ERA on the season.
Kai-Wei Teng, RHP SF (Triple-A)
5.0 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 7 K
Another solid outing for Kai-Wei Teng. He has 82 strikeouts in 52.1 innings this year. He was hit hard in the big leagues last year and is no longer on their 40-man roster. Even though he’s just pitching depth at this point, he’s throwing very well.
Francisco Alvarez, C NYM (Triple-A)
3-for-3, HR, 2 2B, 2 R, 2 RBI
It appears Francisco Alvarez would like to get back to the majors. This is now 4 home runs in his last 3 games. At the beginning of this 3-game run he was hitting .193, now he’s up to .250. Either way, he’s seeing the ball really well right now.
Samuel Basallo, C BAL (Triple-A)
2-for-5, HR, 2B, R, 4 RBI, K
It’s a shame that Samuel Basallo’s defense is so ungodly terrible that he can’t play in the big leagues. That was sarcasm, by the way. He’s not the best defender, but the man would have to be unable to catch a baseball to keep his bat out of a big league lineup. I mean, come on. This was his 19th bomb, he’s hitting .264.
Kyle Harrison, LHP BOS (Triple-A)
5.0 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 7 K
Does this mean the Red Sox won the trade? Maybe Kyle Harrison will be in Boston soon after the news that Hunter Dobbins is going to be out for the rest of the season. That spot could also go to Tanner Houck. Things have not been going this well his entire Red Sox tenure, so this is a welcome sign.
Spencer Jones, OF NYY (Triple-A)
1-for-4, HR, R, RBI, K
I’m not sure if he was promoted to Triple-A or if his stance got so open he just accidentally stepped into the ballpark in Triple-A. Either way, he’s doing what he know him to be doing. Jones has 7 homers in 14 Triple-A games with 8 walks and 20 strikeouts. The Joey Gallo chants are getting louder and louder.
Double-A
Covered by Trevor Hooth
‼️ Brycen Mautz, LHP STL (Double-A)
5.0 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 5 K
It appears Mautz has taken a pretty big step forward this season. After struggling in High-A a year ago, he’s back on track with a 27.6 percent strikeout rate in Double-A, a nearly four percent bump. His walk rate is also down to 7.5 percent from 8.7 percent last year. This has translated to a 3.62 ERA. Mautz is still averaging over a homer per nine, but that may not change unless he starts inducing more ground balls.
Michael Arroyo, 2B SEA (Double-A)
1-for-5, HR, R, 2 RBI, K
The Mariners best prospect went yard for the second time in Double-A. I’m on an island with that statement, but the thing about islands is that people like to visit them. As people visit this island, they may decide to stay because it’s beautiful and filled with the truth. Maybe Farmelo is above Arroyo, but Arroyo is just so good at the plate. I guess Kade Anderson is in the equation, too. I just really like Arroyo.
💣💣 Devin Ortiz, 3B SD (Double-A)
2-for-4, 2 HR, 2 R, 3 RBI
Double dongs for the former UDFA out of Virginia. This gives him four on the year in 305 at bats, so he effectively doubled his season total in one game. The 26-year-old has been a solid performer and climbed every year since 2022. He’s hitting .252 this year.
Gabriel Gonzalez, OF MIN (Double-A)
2-for-5, 2B, RBI
Is Gabriel Gonzalez back? He’d fallen out of favor after having a rough time last year. But is he back? For the season he’s hitting .347 with 7 homers and 6 steals, both are better marks than a season ago. That includes hitting .370 with a pair of bombs and 5 steals in 173 at bats. He may be back, folks.
💣💣 Isan Diaz, 2B KC (Double-A)
2-for-5, 2 HR, 2 R, 2 RBI
The Royals are close to a Christian Yelich trade. Now all they need is to bring in Lewis Brinson, Monte Harrison, and Jordan Yamamoto. Isan Diaz was signed by the Royals at the beginning of July. They assigned him right to Double-A and he’s off to a fast start hitting .409 with a trio of homers, including double dongs in this game.
Edwin Arroyo, SS CIN (Double-A)
1-for-5, HR, R, RBI, K
After missing all of 2024, Edwin Arroyo is back in Double-A. He’s putting together a solid season hitting .272 and is still just 21-years-old. This was just his second homer, though. In all, the power has not come back, at least yet, posting a .082 ISO. Arroyo was a big part of the Luis M. Castillo trade back in 2022.
Denzer Guzman, SS LAA (Double-A)
5-for-5, HR, 3 2B, 3 R, 4 RBI
A bomb, triple doubles, and coming a triple away from the cycle is a good day at the plate. This makes 10 homers for Denzer Guzman on the season. After going 8-for-14 over his last three games he’s raised his season average to .236. His strikeout rate is at 23.4 percent, which is very good. However he’s already 21-years-old and the Angels haven’t called him up yet, which is abnormal.
‼️ Lucas Braun, RHP ATL (Double-A)
3.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K
A perfect trio of innings in this start for Lucas Braun. He threw just 31 pitches in this one. Through 88 innings in Double-A this year Braun has a 3.99 ERA with 81 strikeouts and 20 walks. This is a step down in terms of strikeouts from a year ago, but this was a dominant outing.
🔜 Luis Gil, RHP NYY (Double-A)
3.1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 6 K
It’s been a long road with his injury, but Luis Gil is on the rehab trail. This was his first rehab appearance and he threw 50 pitches. He looked good against Double-A competition, which is a positive sign for a pitching coming back from injury. Although rehab stats don’t often matter.
‼️ Carlos Lagrange, RHP NYY (Double-A)
5.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 7 K
Now that Cam Schlitter is getting his day in the sun, I hope this is a safe space to tell you that Carlos Lagrange is the Yankees best pitching prospect. One thing about him is that he’s tall. Other things about him are that he throws hard and can rack up strikeouts as well as anyone when is command is working for him.
‼️ Joander Suarez, RHP NYM (Double-A)
6.0 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 6 K
I don’t know how many different ways I can say that the Mets pitching this year is so ridiculous. It seems like every day at every level the starting pitcher affiliated with them is having a good day. Joander Suarez is no different. He has a 3.29 ERA with 65 strikeouts and 9 walks at the Double-A level. Suarez did struggle in a couple appearances in Triple-A this year.
High-A
Covered by Grant Carver
Freuddy Batista, C SEA (High-A)
2-for-4, HR, 3 RBI, BB
Home run for Batista, who has been putting on a show all year in his second stint at High-A. Probably deserves a shot at the next level soon, mostly due to the size and power he does possess. He is 25 years old so he has to prove it at a higher level, but a nice season for Batista regardless.
Scott Bandura, RF SFG (High-A)
2-for-5, HR, 3 R, 2 RBI, BB, K, SB
Always nice when bandura shows that power and hopefully one day he can be consistent with it. He is a hit over power profile, but the tall lanky body still has room to grow and add strength. However, he is about to turn 24 years old, so projectability needs to turn into results at some point.
Jonah Cox, LF SFG (High-A)
3-for-4, HR, 2 RBI, BB
Another guy with real impact questions flashing the power tonight. Cox is an older outfielder who has some solid contact skills, but not a lot of thump at the plate. He is also not the most disciplined hitter and chases far too often. Needs to make big strides and have a few more of these stat lines.
Ben Hess, RHP NYY (High-A)
3.2 IP, 2 H, ER, BB, 8 K
Good to see the limited walks and the swings and misses for Hess in this one tonight. He’s had a rocky season, mostly due to the raw control, but there is no doubt that the stuff flashes in a big way. If he can just start throwing more strikes and improving on the command, his stock will fly quickly.
Brandon Winokur, 3B MIN (High-A)
3-for-6, 2B, R, 2 RBI, 2 K
Not a shabby night for the big fella here. Winokur has had a rough season and the hit tool seems to have stalled out, so it’s hard to buy into this profile. Still only 20 years old so has time to develop still, but this is only a profile for the people that are extremely optimist on raw power/size and can turn a blind eye to just about everything else.
Connor Caskenette, C MIA (High-A)
3-for-4, 2 R, 2 RBI, 2 SB
Former 12th rounder last season with a nice night tonight. Not a particularly interesting profile and no tools jump off the page, but this kind of stat line deserved some love.
Thomas Sosa, LF BAL (High-A)
2-for-3, HR, 3 RBI, 2 BB
It’s been a rough season for Sosa, so some power and good plate discipline is nice to see tonight. He is still 20 years old and has an extremely projectable frame, but neither the hit nor power is good enough right now. Until he can improve the contact skills, it’s hard to see him ever hitting enough to stick.
‼️Hung-Len Chang, RHP PIT (High-A)
5 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 5 K
‼️Joshua Loeschorn, RHP PIT (High-A)
2 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, K
‼️Jake Shirk, RHP PIT (High-A)
1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, K
‼️Jarod Bayless, RHP PIT (High-A)
1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K
Times may be tough in Pittsburgh, but the High-A team had the perfect game tonight and are surely celebrating hard.None of these guys are particularly interesting names, but perfect games are so rare in the minors and extremely impressive. Good on these guys.
Dylan Dreiling, LF TEX (High-A)
1-for-3, HR, BB
The impact will come eventually and flashes of power like this make me even more confident. THe hit tool is elite and the approach is advanced overall. THe ceiling might not be super high because the power ceiling might be average, but it’s hard to not like a guy with advanced skills like that at the plate.
Carson Roccaforte, CF KCR (High-A)
3-for-4, HR, 3 R, BB
I think it’s just about tie this guy gets a shot at Double-A. He has made huge strides this season and is getting to the power way more often in games. The hit tool is still pretty rough, but good center field defense and high upside power might be enough to carry him. We’ll see if the power sticks at the next level.
Single-A
Covered by Matt Thompson
👟 Dante Nori, DH PHI (Single-A)
3-for-4, HR, R, 2 RBI, 2 SB
The homer was 102 off the bat. Nori is having a solid yet unremarkable fist full season, hitting .264/.351/.363. The 20 year od Canadian looks more and more like an extra outfielder every time i check in. Light on offensive tools for fantasy, IMO.
Gage Ziehl, RHP NYY (Single-A)
6 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 6 K
The three walks stick out here as including those three he’s only walked 14 on the season in 78 ⅓ innings. Ziehl has excellent command and he’s been getting more whiffs as of late. I do think he lives in the zone a little too much, as he’s become very hittable.
Luis Merejo, 1B CLE (Single-A)
2-for-4, 2 2B, 2 RBI, 2 K
It’s been a rough season for Merejo, as he’s hitting under .180 on the season. He does have ten homers, but we are going to need to see a lot more offensively from a first base prospect.
‼️ Jose Urbina, RHP TB (Single-A)
7 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, BB, 3 K
He might be the best pitcher at this level. Very similar to Santiago Suarez in this system that dominated, Urbina is doing that now. A 1.73 ERA on the season. I get that the Rays have a log jam for pitchers but his performance merits jumping several others.
Nate George, OF BAL (Single-A)
2-for-4, 2B, 2 R, RBI, BB, SB
George is a must add in medium sized leagues. He’s a speedster showing off some good hit tool traits. Don’t look for much power here though, he has more than he’s shown but it’s likely 8-10 homer ceiling.
Victor Figueroa, OF SD (Single-A)
4-for-4, 2B, R, BB
Notice that he was playing RF today. The big man can hit and the Padres are working on adding some versatility to get him into the lineup. When Smada recommends a player, you listen.
