In the first game of the doubleheader, the Jumbo Shrimp sent out White. I got the chance to see him in person earlier this season, and he has proven himself to be one of the best pitching prospects, if not the best. Across three levels, he has a 2.31 ERA with 145 strikeouts in 89.1 innings pitched. From the left side, his fastball is plus and sits in the high 90s. He also has a plus slurve breaking ball and above average changeup to go with it.
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Jumbo Shrimp sent out Snelling, who has been dominant in his 11 Triple-A starts. He owns a 1.27 ERA with 81 strikeouts over 63.2 innings pitched. Another talented lefty, Snelling adds to what looks like a future strength for the Marlins rotation, alongside Pérez, Cabrera, White, and possibly Defrank down the line.
A two-homer game for Jones makes him the first player in MiLB to reach 35 home runs this season. His first blast left the bat at 108.1 mph and traveled 427 feet, while the second came off at 104.2 mph and went 376 feet. Along with his 35 homers, he’s racked up 28 stolen bases. The main concern with Jones is the hit tool, as his 40.98% strikeout rate remains troubling.
Weatherholt has proven himself as one of the top prospects in MiLB, coming in at No. 4 on our Top 100 list. He’s been even better since his promotion to Triple-A, batting .320 with a .998 OPS, 9 home runs, and 9 stolen bases. He should be on the Opening Day roster next season, but with Masyn Winn locked in at shortstop, it’s unclear where Weatherholt will play. If the Cardinals are unable to find a trade partner for Nolan Arenado, I could see Weatherholt holding down center field thanks to his athleticism.
Benge launched his second Triple-A home run, a 105.1 mph rocket off one of the game's top pitching prospects, Andrew Painter. Although he has struggled during his brief Triple-A stint, hitting just .143 over 77 at-bats, Benge dominated both High-A and Double-A in his first full season of pro ball. Ranked No. 17 on our Top 100 list, he shows 5-tool potential. Across three levels, he has totaled 14 home runs, 21 stolen bases, and 45 extra-base hits while also providing plus defense in center and right field.
