Let's kick things off with a report card from the past seven days of minor league baseball (all statistics courtesy of Baseball Reference, Baseball Savant, TJStats, Fangraphs and Milb.com, updated as of the conclusion of play on June 29):
Report Card:
Called Up:
Colby Thomas, OF (ATH): Say what you want about the Athletics as an organization, but their youth movement continues to be a fun side plot this season. Following in the footsteps of Nick Kurtz and Denzel Clarke, Thomas got the call on Monday afternoon. The outfielder brings major pull-side power to the lineup, albeit with an overly-aggressive approach. If you can stomach the strikeouts, he could provide a boost to both your team’s home runs and runs batted in as a waivers add for redraft leagues once he settles in.
Anthony Seigler, C/3B (MIL): News broke late Sunday evening that Seigler would be joining the Brewers this week. Though not the toolsiest of players, the switch-hitter (and switch-thrower!) has an excellent eye at the plate and can play basically anywhere in the field, making him the ideal big-league utility man. Redraft managers ought to wait and see what Seigler’s playing time looks like, but those with roster flexibility in deeper dynasty leagues should consider scooping him if available.
Brandon Young, P (BAL): With Zach Eflin landing on the injured list, Young serves as the corresponding pitching move for the Orioles. The 26-year-old has fared much better in Triple-A than in his handful of MLB starts this season, so stream with caution, but the possibility is there for him to stake a claim to a rotation spot if he performs.
