Called Up:
Drew Gilbert, OF (SF): Recently acquired by the Giants as part of the return package from the Mets for reliever Tyler Rogers, Gilbert made his MLB debut this past week in right field for San Francisco. His first week at the plate has been rough, as the former Tennessee Volunteer remains hitless after ten at-bats, so he will need to show some signs of life at the plate to have a chance at sticking around on the big league roster.
Everson Pereira, OF (TB): The toolsy Pereira looks right at home in the Rays’ system, following his departure from the Yankees at the trade deadline. Half of his hits this week went for extra bases, including his first two home runs with Durham. News broke late Monday night that he will be joining the Rays in the big leagues, so hopefully he will reward dynasty owners (and any ultra-aggressive redraft managers) with some continued access at the plate.
Curtis Mead, 1B/2B (CWS): Like Gilbert, Mead also changed colors at the deadline, moving to the White Sox from the Rays. The Southsiders called him up after just two games with their Triple-A affiliate, and he has returned the favor with some solid contributions at the plate, driving in four and swiping a bag this week. He might be of interest in deeper dynasty settings, but has not yet earned redraft relevance.
Cade Cavalli, P (WAS): Cavalli finally made his return to the majors this week, after quite a prolonged absence, having not appeared for the Nationals since 2022. He looked impressive nonetheless, throwing four and 1/3 scoreless innings and striking out six. The rebuilding Nationals will likely keep Cavalli in their rotation moving forward, and with another successful start or two, he could merit a look as an SP streamer in redraft leagues.
