The trade deadline kicked off a huge domino effect of roster moves throughout the majors this week, including many call-ups. See how they all performed in the latest weekly Report Card (all statistics courtesy of Baseball Reference, Baseball Savant, TJStats, Fangraphs and Milb.com, updated as of the conclusion of play on August 3):

Called Up:

  • Moises Ballesteros, C (CHC): Ballesteros’ second stay in the majors was a brief one, but he made the most of it, going one for two with a double, driving in three runs. He was sent back down following that one appearance, but the Cubs seem interested in getting his bat in the lineup down the stretch. Redraft managers in the playoff hunt should keep a close eye on him, especially in two-catcher formats.
  • C.J. Kayfus, 1B (CLE): “Mr. Consistent” finally hit his way up into the major leagues this weekend. The Guardians gave him one start in right field and another at designated hitter, implying that they intend to give him regular at-bats for the time being. Kayfus is just one for eight with a double thus far, but since he has done nothing but hit at every level, he still seems like an intriguing add in redraft formats for those with enough bench flexibility to wait and see.
  • Robert Hassell III, OF (WAS): Hassell III benefited from Alex Call’s move to the Dodgers at the deadline, getting a call of his own back up to the Nationals. He looked much more comfortable at the plate this time around, hitting .375 with a home run and a double across his first three games back. Expect some streakiness with the bat, but he could provide some interesting redraft production for the next couple of months, given sustained playing time.
