1/8 LIDOM RECAP: Kelvin Gutierrez Helps Propel Gigantes del Cibao to Victory.

In the heat of the LIDOM playoffs, it is time for an updated recap of how teams faired, during two win or go home games.

Toros del Este (3) vs Aguilas Cibaenas (1)  — 9 inn

TOROS DEL ESTE

  • Miguel Andujar had a solid day at the plate, going 2 for 5 with a home run and a single, is looking to reestablish himself with the New York Yankees, and is producing both at the plate, and adding to his versatility, by playing both the infield and outfield. He is someone the Yankees will watch closely as we get closer to Spring Training.

  • OF: Yasiel Puig, who is gaining traction on the free agent market, failed to collect a hit today, but did reach base safely with 2 walks.

  • The brightest prospect for the club was San Diego Padres INF: Jorge Mateo. He went 1 for 4 at the plate, but hit a key home run that drove in two runs in the second inning, to give the club a 3-1 lead, which ended up being the final score for Toros del Este.

  • Baltimore Orioles RP: Fernando Abad, closed out the ball game with a scoreless frame, while giving up no hits, no walks, and one strikeout.

AGUILAS CIBAENAS

  • Rangel Ravelo is making a name for himself, in the Dominican Professional Baseball League. He went 3 for 3 with three singles, and a walk, and will hopefully have opportunity to continue his solid work at the plate, in Game 7 of the playoff series.

  • Oakland Athletics C: Francisco Pena, was mostly quiet at the plate, but came through for the club in the second inning, by hitting an infield single, to drive in the only run of the ball game for Aguilas Cibaenas.

  • Edmundo Sosa, who is looking to play an active role with the St. Louis Cardinals middle infield, went 1 for 3 with a base hit.

  • Free agent RP: Fernando Rodney, looking to latch on with an MLB team, for his 18th season, fired 1.0 inning, 0 runs, 0 hit, 0 walks, 1 strikeout.

Estrellas Orientales (3) vs Gigantes del Cibo (5)  — 9 inn

ESTRELLAS ORIENTALES

  • Jeremy Pena, who has been a bright spot throughout the Dominican Professional Baseball League, had a quiet day at the plate. In the club’s elimination from the postseason, he went 1 for 5 with a single in the first inning, but nevertheless, the young infield prospect looks to become a key player in the Houston Astros future middle infield.

  • One of the games brightest stars Fernando Tatis Jr. gave fans something to cheer about, by going 2 for 4 with two doubles, walk, and drove in all three runs for Estrellas Orientales.

GIGANTES DEL CIBAO

  • Newly signed Houston Astros OF: Jose Siri, was not one of the players that stood out in today’s contest, going 1 for 5, but did drive in one run, to help contribute towards Gigantes del Cibao’s victory.

  • The ‘red hot’ Texas Ranger Ronald Guzman, remained quiet at the plate, with a 1 for 4 performance, single and a walk.

  • Kansas City Royals INF: Kelvin Gutierrez, was a nightmare for the opposition, going 2 for 4, with a home run and single, and in total, drove in 4 of the 5 runs for Gigantes del Cibao. If he can continue to swing the bat, heading into 2021 Spring Training, then the Royals will surely be glad to find a roster spot for the 26 year-old, Dominican native.

  • The Pittsburgh Pirates are looking for Oneil Cruz to become a key piece towards the club’s rebuilding efforts. The shortstop went 1 for 4, with a base hit, and will look to further improve, deeper into the playoffs.

  • Chris Ellis, pitcher in the Tampa Bay Rays organization, had a fantastic performance on the mound, firing 6.0 innings, 1 ER, 2 BB. 7 K.
