Day two of the MLB Draft Combine came and went on Wednesday with plenty of star performances and exclamation marks along the way. I would say that Wednesday’s crop of talent for the on-field workouts was a tier below Tuesday’s, with fewer day one talents working out.
If you missed the day 1 recap you can find it here:
The day started with nearly 3 rounds of BP, where EVs were slightly lower across the board, but of course they would be when the likes of Brandon Compton and Taitn Gray were busy meeting with teams. The man with the EV crown on Wednesday was Sebastian Norman, who we got a look at in the high school game the night before; more on him soon.
Right after noon, positional drills began with a large group of outfielders working out today. There was less talent in the infield without the first-round prep shortstops, but there was still an interesting group up the middle with yesterday’s game standout Bruin Agbayani continuing to impress.
During some of the position work, I interviewed Devin Taylor, the career HR record holder at Indiana, who is firmly in first-round conversations. That interview can be found here:
After positional work, roughly 30 pitchers toed the rubber on the main mound, led off by Mason Pike, firing 96+ mph heaters and good breaking balls. Plenty of other pitchers stood out, which is where we will go first in my player recaps, right after top metrical performances.

Pitchers
Nate Snead, RHP (Tennessee)
Nate Snead was the velocity king of the combine, hitting 99.2 on the last pitch of his bullpen. His velocity was consistently above 97 throughout. Like many other hard throwers, Snead throws a hard cutter that plays well off his sinker/2-seam shaped fastball. The cutter was 92-95 with minimal movement in the 6 vert, 6 horizontal range. I’m sure orgs would switch it closer to a hard slider with a little bit more horizontal movement to keep it away from his fastball. Snead showed good feel for a changeup and curveball as well, with the curveball showing closer to 12-6 movement at 83 mph, getting to -11 vert. Snead has all the potential in the world, but a pitch-type retooling might be necessary for him to be a starter long term, which is unlikely to begin with.
