For all of you who play in leagues with an Open Universe environment, you understand the draw that leagues like this can bring. Opening up the player pool to NPB, KBO, college, high school, and even Latin American free agents creates an extremely fascinating dynamic that keeps managers on their toes.
As we enter the portion of the offseason when Asian players are posted, with the January 6th International Free Agent signing date on the horizon, we felt it was important to update the Open Universe Rankings based on shifting values across these leagues. The list includes 129 players in this update and is available to our current 60 Tier (or above) subscribers in the PLIVE+ App Suite:
In the last couple of updates to this list, it's been difficult to narrow down to one prospect at the top. In this update, there are a couple of players (one hitter and one pitcher) who stand above the rest from two completely different backgrounds, but both are incredibly talented and deserving. Roch Cholowsky, the UCLA shortstop, is the consensus 1-1 in next year's amateur draft and, by all accounts, looks to be a generational prospect. His all-around profile of contact, power, and speed should play in fantasy at a premium position, and he edges out one of the most talented Japanese pitchers we have ever seen.
