With spring in Bloomington and temperatures starting to warm back up, I got my first look at an Indiana lineup featuring top draft prospects Devin Taylor and Korbyn Dickerson against Michigan St. It was a scoring barrage for the Hoosiers, who scored 40 runs across the series between Sunday’s game and Monday’s doubleheader, walking away with a critical series sweep.

Here are some of the players that stood out the most to me from the series (Team/Draft Eligible year).

OF Korbyn Dickerson (Indiana / Draft Eligible: 2025)

Series stats: 8-15, 5 R, 8 RBI, 2 XBH

After an underwhelming Sunday by his season standards against Michigan State ace Joseph Dzierwa in which he went 1-5, Dickerson was the star of the series for me, going 7-10 with 7 RBI in the doubleheader and continuing his torrid season and rise up draft boards.

Dickerson worked some great ABs, showing an ability to work counts and hit the ball to all parts of the field with a powerful right-handed swing. My only concern is that he was passive or too aggressive at times against breaking and offspeed pitches, taking strikes in the zone and chasing pitches outside. However, he pulled a CB for a chopper double down the LF line in the first game of the doubleheader and crushed an opposite-file HR to right-center in the second game on a changeup that was 105 MPH off the bat. I’m optimistic he can improve against quality breaking and offspeed offerings with pro development, and his pitch recognition was better than I expected.

Dickerson is a plus runner and made some great plays in CF, and I have little question about his ability to stick there as a pro. He has tools to dream on in a college hitter pairing his plus speed and athleticism with plus power potential and presently average hit tool. It’s a profile that teams love, with legitimate 5-tool upside, especially if he can improve against quality breaking and offspeed. Dickerson is a Top 15 draft prospect for me, and I expect his name to be called as early as a lottery pick in July.
