Drew Waters - CF Atlanta Braves

Drew Waters

Age: 19 (12/30/98)

Bats/Throws: S/R

Height/Weight: 6'2" 183 lbs.

Pos: CF

Team/Level/League: Florida Fire Frogs/High A/Florida State League

Body/Athleticism:

Slender build, lean and athletic. Quick twitch movements. Max body projection. Should add ~20 pounds of muscle without sacrificing speed and athleticism.

Stance:

Upright, hands high at set up. Minimal leg kick, stride. Stays balanced.

Hit tool:

30/55 - Toolsy swing with inside out approach. Uses the whole field. When he is going good, swing is short and compact. Bat speed generated from wrists. Loose at the plate. Overly aggressive, often swinging at first pitch. Likes to hunt fastballs and will expand the zone on FB’s up, leading to swing-and-miss. Swing can get long at times. Pitch recognition should improve with reps. Good feel for the barrel. LH more advanced than RH.

Game Power:

30/55 - Power generated from bat speed. Could play up to 20+ HR. More power from the LH side but has flashed easy pop from RH. Power should continue to improve with added strength. Doubles power at present but can juice mistakes for HR. Game power at present limited due to aggressiveness at the plate and willingness to expand up-and-away.

Raw Power:

40/55 - Line drives with carry in BP. Loud contact. Doesn’t need to sell out for power. Loose, strong wrists.

Speed:

60/60 - Loose, athletic runner. Aggressive on the base paths with high IQ. Potential 20-30 SB

Defense:

55/55 - Rangey, athletic CF. Reads off the bat are improving. Projects as a CF at the MLB level. Defense plays up on the corners. 60 defender in LF.

Arm:

50/55 - Throws are accurate with carry. Likes to show off arm. Average arm strength at present but should play up a half grade with improved strength.

Overall:

60 - Dynamic athlete with potential for 5 above-average to plus tools. Confident on the field. Lean build lends itself to added strength which could unlock game power making Waters a potential 20+/30+ HR/SB threat. Hit tool will improve with reps and selectivity. Easy power when he stays within himself and doesn’t over swing. Future All-Star at peak.
