A double away from the cycle for Marcelo Mayer, whose days in Boston feel a touch numbered because he is and has never been a shortstop, and that is the only spot left on the infield because Devers doesn’t want to move off of third, but then Alex Bregman is at second. The infield construction is ultimately a good problem, leaving little space for Mayer. He will be like Squidward looking out the window, seeing Patrick (Roman Anthony) and Spongebob (Kristian Campbell) outside playing (being in the big leagues). This means his best avenue for consistent playing time is a trade.
