Spring Training Daily Sheet 3/15/2025: Spring Breakout!
Rhys has decided to cover the Cactus League while Nate is off somewhere in Idaho. Trevor Hooth, a favorite of everyone around here, will cover the Grapefruit League in his place.

Spring Breakout is more than just what a dermatologist might diagnose someone with here in a few weeks. It is a showcase event for some of the most exciting prospects on a national stage.
Dylan Crews, OF WAS (Grapefruit League) 0-for-3, 3 K
It was a hat trick day for Dylan Crews, striking out three times. Baseball is the best. Like Wood, Crews is in no danger of not having a roster spot. Plus he’s still hitting .324 with a trio of stolen bases. The strikeouts are not of great concern, but it’s my first turn on The Sheet and I wanted to talk about how insanely excited I am for an entire season of Crews in the majors.
Drake Baldwin, C ATL (Grapefruit League) 1-for-3, RBI
With Sean Murphy unfortunately going down to injury, it’s likely Drake Baldwin SZN in Atlanta. After hitting .276 with 16 home runs in Triple-A last year. He’s hitting .364 and has only struck out once in 28 plate appearances this Spring. It’s hard to imagine he doesn’t get the starting job. Even if it’s temporary, he’s a super interesting player for the early parts of the 2025 season.
Tomoyuki Sugano, RHP BAL (Grapefruit League) 3.1 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K
It’s been a delightfully dominant first impression for the Orioles 35-year-old signing out of the NPB. He has yet to surrender a run in 10.1 innings with 11 strikeouts and just three walks. The Orioles need him to be in the rotation. His low-90’s fastball isn’t at the dominant velo that we’ve come to know from pitchers, but he’s performing extremely well.
Roman Anthony, OF BOS (Grapefruit League), 2-for-4, HR, 4 RBI
This Roman Anthony guy seems like he’s a pretty good prospect. Seems like soon he should be Raomin’ the outfield in Fenway. Let’s hope bad puns aren’t a fireable offense. What’s not a fireable offense is hitting .316 and also obliterating a Spring Breakout homerun.
Richard Fitts, RHP BOS (Grapefruit League) 4.1 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 4 K
It seems like Richard Fitts has taken legitimate steps forward. He’s throwing harder and seeing the results in his early Spring Training outings. With Brayan Bello and Lucas Giolito due to miss the beginning of the season it seems like Richard Fitts into the rotation. But the injured pitchers will heal at some point, so the future is a little murky.
