Nate's NL East Prediction
1 Atlanta Braves
2 Philadelphia Phillies
3 New York Mets
4 Washington Nationals
5 Miami Marlins
Reasoning: These picks feel chalk but I don’t think there’s any other way to rank this. The Braves have a really strong rotation with the bats to match. The Profar signing really helps extend the lineup and Schwellenbach is a legit Cy Young darkhorse. The Phillies have the talent to match the Braves, but with an aging lineup, regression is due for some of their best players who are starting to get up there in age. The Mets lineup is a delight to look at, but the pitching staff is in shambles (Clay Holmes is the truth). The Nationals have some young MLB talent to get excited for, but much like the Marlins won’t be good for much entertainment in 2025.
Rhys' NL East Prediction
1 Philadelphia Phillies
2 New York Mets
3 Atlanta Braves
4 Washington Nationals
5 Miami Marlins
Reasoning: The Phillies have the best rotation in baseball when Luzardo is your number-five starter, and you can technically count Andrew Painter as the sixth starter at some point this season. The offense is gonna be one of the best in the majors. The Mets are gonna beat the Braves this year and shock the world. This may not count as shocking to the world when you pair Lindor with a legit superstar in Soto and an organization that develops pitching well. The rotation looks better than Atlanta’s 1-5, and I like the offense more. The Braves have two good starters in Sale and Schwellenbach, with many question marks in my eyes. And I worry about the depth of this lineup. The Nationals have the number one overall pick to be excited about and a bunch of interesting prospects; I don’t think they have the pitching or the depth of the lineup to compete in such a strong division. The Marlins will trade any player that shows any signs of life this year. Keep an eye on them trading Alcantara and Cabrera at some point this year to become the worst team in the league.
I was texting my dad that Casey Mize was pitching well this spring, and then Marcelo Mayer came up and hit a triple. Don’t you love when that happens? Mayer getting some run out at second base and third will help him, mainly if an injury occurs this year. He should be a solid, unspectacular fantasy option during his rookie year because, at this point, we need to expect every rookie to be bad before they become good. I am looking for him to be up after Campbell and Anthony this season, so I am considering a mid-May call-up if I have to make a prediction.
