Rhys White here, and I am back to cover everything that happened during Spring Training yesterday. Sorry for the later-than-normal post; I also have been covering the Big 12 on the College Daily Sheet. We have baseball back, and I, for one, am thrilled about this development. Does anyone have any good predictions for this year? So far, I think the Rangers will be the best team in the AL West and are sneaky World Series contenders; I mean, look at that lineup and start pitching…when healthy. Please don’t look at that bullpen as currently constructed; luckily, that is an easy area to fix mid-season if things go the way I hope for the Ranger.
Jace Jung, 3B DET (Grapefruit League) 2-for-2, 2 2B, R
Who needs Alex Bregman? Jace Jung is firmly in a competition for the Tiger's third-base job after the Tigers failed to lure Bregman to Detroit. Is he one of the worst defenders at third base? Yes, but he could just hit his way into being solid. The power is nothing crazy, and projecting power in Comerica is difficult. But if all goes well, he could hit 18-20 homers. I worry about him; he gets lost in the shuffle of things regarding how the Tiger's roster is currently constructed.
This is what you want to see from one of the best prospects in baseball. He will almost assuredly graduate this season, and in doing so, the Nats are hoping he puts them into a spot where they can compete for a PPI selection. Dylan Crews could be a 20/20 threat for the Nats as early as this season. I have some slight questions about him in center field. But that is not why we are here.
JJ Wetherholt is one of the better pure hitters in the minors, and he displayed that going the other way for this homer. 345-foot opposite-field homers are impressive, and with his innate bat-to-ball skills, we could see Wetherholt out-slug his projected power. If it all comes together, there could be a little bit of Alex Bregman to his game. I will be interested to see where the Cardinals deploy him because if they want to roll him out there as a shortstop, that will be worth following. Also, it will be interesting to see how quickly the Cardinals decide to ramp him through the minors because they are one of the more conservative organizations in baseball. But a left-side of the infield combo in 2026 of Wetherholt and Winn is gonna be so much fun, especially when Winn starts running more.
