Next up in out draft conference previews, we have the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). In no particular order, I will be listing the top ten potential draftees from each conference, going through a few honorable mentions that just missed my top ten, and listing some additional names to watch.
First up in the MAAC, we have Matt Bucciero, the junior outfielder for the Fairfield Stags. Bucciero sets up with a slightly crouched stance, lower hands, and a low and quick step in his load. He features a 6’2” strong, mature build that screams corner outfielder. His power tool is the best in the conference and he really tapped into it in game this past season. His bat to ball skills has also really improved this season from last. He can hit the pull side gap with ease but also excels at hitting the ball where it’s pitched and poking it the other way with pop. His pitch recognition and overall approach improved this year too, posting clear improvements on his whiff and chase rates from a year ago.
Statistically, Bucciero has a 1.095 OPS this year with 21 stolen bases and the best strikeout rate and walk rate of his career. He also completed back to back seasons with both 15 home runs and 60+ RBI en route to leading his team to a conference championship. Defensively, he will likely be a corner outfielder and shouldn’t have too much trouble transitioning to the pros in that regard. His athleticism is average with good enough range and arm to stick in the outfield. The first team all conference member had a nice summer in the NECL last summer and will look to increase his stock even more leading up to the draft in July.
