Happy belated Opening Day to all! The long winter is finally over, and Major League Baseball is officially back at the highest level of the sport. This week’s edition of the Midweek College Daily Sheet will be brief, as the Draft Team gears up to release its Prep Board in the coming days, and so readers can enjoy the return of MLB action.
There will be no draft value updates this week; instead, we’re spotlighting the top midweek performers who stood out across the college landscape.
One of the most impressive power surges this spring has come from Marek Houston, who continues to rewrite the narrative around his offensive game. In Tuesday’s matchup between Wake Forest and Elon, Houston added yet another long ball to his total, his 10th of the season, marking a new career high in the power department.
The game itself was a one-sided affair, with the Demon Deacons cruising to a 10-0 run-rule win in seven innings, and Houston played a key role in that outcome. He stayed hot at the plate, logging three hits on the day, and when Wake Forest smelled blood in the water, Houston delivered a massive blow. In the sixth inning, with the run rule in sight, he launched a two-run homer into left field to stretch the lead to 7-0.
Houston has been one of the most consistent and dynamic hitters in the ACC since Opening Weekend and has skyrocketed up draft boards in the process. With his continued blend of contact, power, and defensive value up the middle, he’s trending toward a potential top-10 selection this July.
