Griffen Paige, Wright State LHP - 8 IP, 1 H, 2 ER, 6 BB, 3 K, (113 Pitches) Win

Boston Smith, Wright State C - 4 AB, 1 R, 1 H, 2 RBI, 2 K, 1 HR

Luke Arnold, Wright State SS - 4 AB, 1 R, 1 H, 1 RBI, 2 K, 1 HR

Wright State made some serious noise yesterday by eliminating the number one national seed, Vanderbilt on their home turf. In the first, Griffen Paige set the tone with a perfect top half followed by back to back jacks from Boston Smith and Luke Arnold in the bottom of the first. Vandy answered in the top of the second with a homer of their own, but Paige kept them off the scoreboard the rest of the inning. From then on it was pitcher for pitcher, scoreless inning for scoreless inning the rest of the way until the top of the ninth when Paige eventually ran out of gas. Vanderbilt made things interesting with a three spot in the ninth, cutting their deficit to just one, but they didn’t tie or take the lead and their season ended by the hands of the Wright State Raiders, 5-4.

Ethan Eberle, Louisville LHP - 6.1 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 11 K (104 Pitches), Win

In game two of the day, the emotional game one for Wright State was just a bit too much for them to come back from and Louisville’s freshman lefty Ethan Eberle was on point. To start the game, Eberle sat down the first eight Raiders batters he faced, racking up four punchouts in just 2.2 innings. He did let a couple guys get on base as the game went on with a few walks and hits but never allowed any damage to the scoreboard. He was eventually relieved in the sixth with the score just being 4-0, but Louisville seemed to be firmly in control. They indeed were as the bullpen finished it out with the 6-0 victory and sent the Cardinals to a Super Regional matchup against the winner between Southern Miss and Miami today.

Jake Cook, Southern Miss CF - 11 AB, 3 R, 5 H, 1 RBI, 1 BB

Nick Monistere, Southern Miss 2B - 11 AB, 2 R, 2 H, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 3 K

Ben Higdon, Southern Miss LF - 8 AB, 3 R, 4 H, 5 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 HBP, 1 SB 1 HR

Joey Urban, Southern Miss DH - 8 AB, 3 R, 2 H, 5 RBI, 2 BB, 5 K, 2 HR

Grayden Harris, Southern Miss LHP - 6.1 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 HBP (87 Pitches), Win

Game one of the day for Southern Miss was dominated by Grayden Harris on the bump and timely hitting by the offense overall. Harris got his day started with a perfect top of the first followed by a Nick Monistere RBI single to give them the lead in the bottom half. In the second, Columbia got him for a run, which would be the only run allowed by Southern Miss in this game. After going back and forth in scoreless innings through the fifth, Southern Miss finally struck again on a fielder’s choice groundout by Jake Cook to give them the lead. Ben Higdon broke things open in the eighth with a three-run bomb, making it a 6-1 lead. That would be enough to send them to the regional championship game.

In game two of the day, the offense just exploded with a nine-spot in the first inning with RBI’s from six different hitters, capped off with a three-run homer off the bat of Joey Urban. Urban struck again in the seventh with another homer, making it a 12-5 game. A Ben Higdon sac fly and another three-run homer was the dagger that sent Southern Miss to a winner-take-all game today against Miami.

Hunter Hines, Mississippi State 1B - 3 AB, 2 H, 2 RBI, 1 2B, 1 Sac Fly

Evan Siary, Mississippi State RHP - 6 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 9 K, 1 HBP (83 Pitches), Win

In Mississippi State’s first game of the day, they came out on top of the close game against Northeastern led by Hunter Hines’ bat and excellent pitching from Evan Siary. Siary got things started with a perfect top of the first and Hines answered in the bottom of the first with an RBI getting the Bulldogs on the board 1-0. Siary kept Northeastern off the basepaths completely until the fifth inning when a couple hits and a stolen base got them on the board, 2-1. In the bottom of the fifth, Hines answered back with a sac fly, doubling their lead to two. That proved to be a very important run as Northeastern would score again, but that score held to the end as Mississippi State made it to the regional championship against Florida State.

Cal Fisher, Florida State 3B - 5 AB, 1 R, 2 H, 2 RBI, 1 SB, 1 HR

Wes Mendes, Florida State LHP - 8 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 9 K (105 Pitches), Win

The regional championship was a dogfight, but Florida State came through at the very end to win and advance. Wes Mendes was absolutely dominant on the bump for FSU as, following allowing a leadoff home run, he didn’t give up another run until the fifth inning. Florida State didn’t get on the scoreboard until the seventh inning where Cal Fisher blasted a two-run homer to tie the game late. Then, with the momentum back in their favor, Florida State struck for three more and that was enough to give them the victory, 5-2 and send them to the Super Regional round.

Luke Lawrence, 2B Kentucky - 2-for-5, 2 2B, 2 R, RBI

Cole Hage, LF Kentucky - 2-for-5, 2B, 2 R, RBI

Carson Hansen, CF Kentucky - 3-for-4, 2, R, 2 RBI

Holy small ball! Kentucky, as you are about to see, scored a lot of runs yesterday, but in this first game, none of them came by way of the home run. I mean, scoring 16 runs with none of them resulting from a home run is rather impressive. This was an entire team effort. Luke Lawrence had the most notable day, hitting two doubles, as he continues to be what this Kentucky offense has needed: to be on base and we will figure it out from there. He doesn't run all that much, but he just hits, grinds out plate appearances, and is just a tough out. Cole Hage is an experienced hitter and he was able to keep the ball moving on offense. The 23-year-old senior has been a much-needed adult in the room and has been a steady force for the Kentucky Wildcats. Then we have another transfer, Carson Hansen, going from the Horizon League to the SEC is a rather big jump, but like everyone else here, he has been a steady contributor, even if he did strike out a bit too much during the regular season.

Nate Harris, RHP Kentucky - 6 IP, 6 H, 3 R (3 ER), 4 BB, 7 K

What do Nate Harris and the transfer guys ahead of him talk about? I don’t know, but they probably talk about winning baseball games. Nate Harris has had an up-and-down freshman year, but when the Wildcats needed him most, he came through for them. Harris’s command, or lack thereof, didn’t hurt him, and that is encouraging. Going out there and getting your true freshman to give you six innings is impressive, kudos to Nate Harris. His stuff looked good, and he was able to maneuver through what can be a tough Clemson lineup.

Logan Sauve, C West Virginia - 2-for-6, HR, 2 R, 2 RBI

Pretty suave of him in this one. He got the scoring going, and West Virginia was able to knock off Kentucky in what was an absolute thriller. There were a combined 25 runs in this one, and Logan Sauve and his West Virginia squad were able to take things back home to the country roads. Can I give myself a bit of a pat on the back for this one? Probably not, but that won’t stop me. Just like you can’t stop this West Virginia squad.

Matthew Dallas, LHP Wake Forest - 7.2 IP, 8 H, 3 R (3 ER), BB, 4 K

Is Matthew Dallas's name reminiscent of an 80's adult film star? Maybe, but Matthew Dallas came through when Wake needed him. Wake has been a mix of weird and disappointing all year, but getting two wins yesterday might allow them to move past their regular season performance. He experienced a similar transfer to Chase Burns, moving from Tennessee to Wake, but things didn't turn out the same. However, that's not the main point. Dallas might not have gotten a lot of strikeouts, but he pitched incredibly well, recording 11 flyouts and 7 groundouts, while avoiding loading the bases in a potentially challenging matchup against Cincinnati. He allowed Wake to fight another day, and at the end of the day, that's all you can ask for.

Andrew Fischer, 1B Tennessee - 2-for-5, HR, R, 3 RBI

This is just for Drew and Drew only. Fischer is on a 3-game hitting streak, and unfortunately, he wasn't able to score that extra run or two to get Tennessee over the line against Wake. Fischer's 24th home run was nice to see. Let's hope he hits 25 today, and we can see a happy Drew Wheeler.

Dante Smith, RF North Dakota State - 3-for-5, 2 2B, 3 R, 4 RBI

Some could say this was the real Dante’s inferno. Unfortunately the farm boy as Nate calls everyone who goes to NDSU apparently, as he eats his bland bean dip, had to watch as Creighton crushed a single towards him that ultimately scored the final run of the game. He did all he could do, and unfortunately, for him, Creighton had a date with the Arkansas Razorbacks, but like a last minute date that you throw together on tinder, not that I would have any experience with that.

Kyle Hess, 2B Creighton - 2-for-4, HR, 2 R, 4 RBI

Kyle Hess was the hero in this one, as it came down to the 9-hole hitter to get the job done, and well, he performed. You see this sort of thing in Disney movies all the time. When the bottom of your lineup is hitting like this, especially as a mid-major, whew baby, they can do some damage.

Logan Maxwell, RF Arkansas - 2-for-4, 2 HR, 2 R, 3 RBI

You love to see a double-dong for the Arkansas senior as he hit his eleventh and twelfth homers of the season, after never really being a big power threat before this year. The veteran corner outfielder accounted for forty percent of the home runs the Razorbacks hit. This offensive performance is what you want from a senior as Arkansas is on their way to hosting a Super Regional next weekend.

Gage Wood, RHP Arkansas - 6 IP, 3 H, 3 R (3 ER), 13 K

Gage Wood's thirteen strikeouts also contributed to the win. He was masterful, not walking a single batter. He would throw 98 mph up in the zone and then get some really awkward swings and misses with his breaking ball low in the zone. It was a simple plan for Wood, and he executed it about as well as you could ask for, taking a load off the defense and putting together one of the most dominant starts we've seen this weekend. Not bad for someone who was part of the heartbreak last year for Arkansas, as he was on the mound when Arkansas lost to Southeast Missouri, and who has struggled with a shoulder injury all year.

Slate Alford, 3B Georgia

3-for-4, 2 HR, 3 R, 3 RBI, BB

Christian Adams, 1B Georgia

4-for-5, 2 HR, 2 R, 2 RBI

Kollin Ritchie, CF Oklahoma State

1-for-4, HR, 2 R, 3 RBI, BB, K

Brock Thompson, 3B Oklahoma State

2-for-3, HR, 2 R, 2 BB, K

There are a few different games you could choose as far as the best game of the weekend, but to this point this Georgia Oklahoma State elimination game was that for me. Balls were flying into the trees, tempers were flaring, bats were flipped. What else could you possibly want? Slate Alford was the one centered in the controversy for the Dawgs after flipping his bat towards the Cowboys dugout after his first home run. That caused quite a stir with Josh Holliday and so Alford in response just hit another home run and laid the bat down gently on the foul line. FAU transfer Christian Adams also homered twice to jolt Georgia offensively. However, it was an insane four-run rally in the bottom of the 9th by Oklahoma State that stunned the hosts, with Kollin Ritchie staying hot to tie the game with a two-run shot and Brock Thompson won it with a homer to the opposite field. A major upset in Athens and saw the first top eight seed of the day knocked out of their own regional on a day where the Georgia bullpen let them down big time.

Kollin Ritchie, CF Oklahoma State

2-for-3, HR, R, 2 RBI, BB, K

Noah Wech, RHP Oklahoma State

6.0 IP, 5 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 5 K

AJ Gracia, CF Duke

1-for-4, HR, R, RBI

Sam Harris, DH Duke

2-for-4, 2 RBI, K

It seemed impossible that the regional final between Duke and Oklahoma State could top the game earlier in the day, but it sure got pretty close. We might as well just rename the Athens regional the Kollin Ritchie regional because he got the scoring started again with a two-run shot in the fourth and proceeded to rob a home run in the bottom half. Freshman Noah Wech was outstanding on the bump for the Cowboys, tossing six scoreless innings and giving fans a preview at what’s to come in Oklahoma State’s rotation next season as well. Duke rallied in the bottom of the eighth to take the lead on a two-run single by Sam Harris, a lead they would never relinquish and winning them the regional. The story should have been Duke heading to a super after an absolutely disastrous start to the season, but instead it’s star outfielder AJ Gracia being ejected from the game for bringing a prop two steps onto the field. No one gets in the way of college baseball more than the NCAA themselves, it’s truly remarkable. Duke will either get a trip to Oxford to take on Ole Miss in the supers or will host Murray State. Regardless of who they play, they will have to try to win game one without Gracia, who is suspended for the contest because of the ejection.

Angel Cano, 1B Little Rock

2-for-4, HR, 2B, R, 2 RBI, BB

Ty Rhoades, 3B Little Rock

2-for-4, HR, R, 3 RBI

Little Rock had a day to remember in Baton Rouge yesterday and got it started with an upset win over Dallas Baptist. Angel Cano has been one of the biggest surprises of the tournament and he led the way in this game once again. Team home run leader Ty Rhoades got the scoring started with a three-run homer to right-center and after DBU came back to take a 4-3 lead, it was all Little Rock from there. A real disappointing end for the Patriots, who were hoping to get another shot at LSU but instead it was upstart Little Rock getting that chance.

Derek Curiel, LF LSU

3-for-4, 2B, R, BB

Angel Cano, 1B Little Rock

2-for-5, HR, 2B, 2 R, 5 RBI

Malcolm Brown, RHP Little Rock

5.1 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K

I have to admit I gave Little Rock essentially no chance to win this game and they ultimately controlled this one most of the way. They were able to hold LSU’s bats outside of Derek Curiel quiet all night and Angel Cano jump started the Little Rock offense by driving in the first five runs of the game. Malcolm Brown was excellent in relief and picked up the last 16 outs to secure the massive upset victory. LSU will now have to play a winner-take-all game at the Box tonight to host a super next weekend and Little Rock will try to pull one of the biggest regional upsets in recent memory.

3-for-4, HR, 3 R, 3 RBI, 2 BB

Ethan Kleinschmit, RHP Oregon State

7.2 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 6 K

The Beavers didn’t play around with St. Mary’s this time, jumping on them early and often to secure a blowout 20-3 victory in their elimination game. A nine-run sixth inning was what finally put the Gaels to bed, but still a terrific run in this regional for them. The bats have absolutely caught fire for Oregon State, in particular Trent Caraway who has had a monster regional after being an underwhelming regular season. This Oregon State lineup is so deep from the top to bottom and that’s the biggest reason I picked them as my national runner-up. Ethan Kleinschmit was terrific on the mound as well, coming up just four outs short of a complete game and saved a lot of the Beavers arms for the nightcap against USC.

Trent Caraway, 3B Oregon State

3-for-4, HR, 2B, 3 R, 4 RBI, 2 BB, K

Tyce Peterson, 1B Oregon State

4-for-4, 2B, R, 2 RBI, BB

Gavin Turley, LF Oregon State

2-for-3, HR, 2 R, 2 RBI, 3 BB

Zach Kmatz, RHP Oregon State

3.0 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 7 K, SV

Well Oregon State won both their games today by a combined score of 34-4. They’ve played really well in the three games since their loss to St. Mary’s on Friday night and the bats have caught fire. Caraway stayed red-hot in this one, reaching base five times with two extra-base hits. Tyce Peterson quietly had an excellent day in both games as well out of the nine spot in the order and went 4-for-4 with a double. True freshman righty Zach Kmatz got the save by getting seven of his nine outs via the strikeout to close out a dominant 14-1 victory over the Trojans. Oregon State looks to finish off their run with a win over USC tonight to host their own super next weekend against Florida State.

AJ Evasco, RF Kansas State – 2-for-4, 2 HR, 2 R, 3 RBI

Norris McClure, 3B UTSA – 3-for-5, HR, 1 R, 2 RBI

Texas opened Saturday with an elimination-game win over Kansas State, thanks in large part to Ethan Mendoza and Casey Borba. Mendoza sparked the offense out of the leadoff spot, going 3-for-5 with a double in the win. Borba turned in one of the most impressive performances of the tournament, going 4-for-5 with two home runs and eight RBIs in that same game. Both cooled off in the Game 2 loss to UTSA, though Borba still managed to contribute a hit and an RBI.

On the other side, Kansas State’s AJ Evasco wrapped up his season in style, launching two home runs and driving in three in the loss to Texas. UTSA’s Norris McClure stayed red-hot, going 3-for-5 with a home run in the Roadrunners’ win over Texas in the night game to punch their ticket to the super regionals. With McClure swinging the bat like this, UTSA is a team to watch in the next round.

Evan Griffis, RF Stetson – 3-for-4, HR, 2 R, 5 RBI, 1 BB

Jordan Taylor, Stetson – 4-for-5, HR

Auburn has been one of the most dominant teams this postseason, and their top hitters showed exactly why. Ike Irish added three more hits on Saturday, including a towering home run, as he continues to push for a top-20 spot in July’s draft. Bub Terrell chipped in four hits of his own, including a double, and drove in two during the Tigers’ 11–1 rout of NC State. Chris Rembert set the tone from the leadoff spot with a 4-for-6 effort, a double, and four RBIs. Auburn’s top three hitters combined for 11 hits and 9 RBIs, showing just how deep and dangerous this lineup is heading into super regionals.

On the other side, Evan Griffis capped off a strong weekend for Stetson by going 3-for-4 with a home run and five RBIs in a loss to NC State. Jordan Taylor also had a big day for the Hatters, recording four hits and a homer, but the offense alone couldn’t keep their season alive.

Neither starter made it more than 1 inning in this matchup, with a team scoring a run in all of the first 8 innings, until Georgia Tech was shut out in the 9th to end their season. Ole Miss got out to an early lead after the second inning, ahead 6-3, fueled by a 3-run HR by Isaac Humphrey. Georgia Tech battled back over the next few innings, scoring 5 unanswered, including a long ball by Drew Burress on a full count. Jud Utermark hit his 3rd homer of the regional to claw back into the game, and Ole Miss wouldn’t look back, blanking GT for the last three innings while scoring some insurance runs along the way.

Dustin Mercer, RF Murray St

Mitchell Sanford, LF Ole Miss

3-for-5, 2 R, 3 RBI, 2 BB

Murray State simply ran out of gas on the mound today, with nobody able to get the job done and shut down the Ole Miss offense yesterday. The Rebels put up 15 runs in the first 4 innings, capitalized by an 8 run 3rd inning where Murray State used 3 pitchers. Austin Fawley and Will Furniss went yard early in the game to put Ole Miss out in front, while Isaac Humphrey nearly hit for the cycle, only missing a single. The two will play again tomorrow with a super regional berth on the line. The biggest question moving forward is whether Murray State has enough pitching to compete tomorrow. We know the offense is good enough to put up a competitive amount of runs, but they need to keep the game within reach on the other side of the ball in a hostile environment.

UC Irvine eliminated Arizona State yesterday with a big 7th inning and shutdown relief pitching. UCI got out to an early lead, in large part to Alex Call’s multi-homer game. A pair of ASU doubles in the 6th and 7th innings put the game within reach for the Sun Devils, but UCI would add four runs in the 7th, started by a James Castagnola homer on a full count. Ryder Brooks did just enough on the mound for the anteaters, getting through 5.1 innings before turning it over to Ricky Ojeda and David Utagawa, who allowed only one run the rest of the game. UC Irvine’s prize for winning is a matchup with the red-hot Bruins directly after.

Mulivai Levu, 1B UCLA

2-for-5, HR, R, 3 RBI

Dean West, LF UCLA

2-for-2, 2 R, BB

This game looked like it was quickly going the way of UCLA and their offense, but UC Irvine was able to stop the bleeding after the 4th inning and make things interesting the rest of the way. The start of this game was all Bruins offense once again, capitalized by another Mulivai Levu home run, putting UCLA up 8-0 In the 4th. UC Irvine would immediately respond with a pair of runs in the bottom of the 4th, followed by 3 more in the next 2 innings. The anteaters, trailing by 3 after 6 innings, would come up empty down the stretch thanks to lights-out pitching from multiple UCLA arms. The Bruins looked utterly dominant throughout this regional and have punched their ticket to a super regional in impressive fashion.
