Major League Baseball
Covered by Smada
We've got notes on a bevy of potential breakout hitters and pitchers as well as some older pitchers in who made their first start of the season. And what is an MLB section of the Daily Sheet this year without some torpedo bat commentary?
Jazz Chisholm Jr., 2B NYY (MLB)
3-for-4, 2 HR, 3 R, 5 RBI, K
The torpedo bat stayed in the limelight as Jazz hit two balls out of the park on Sunday. Each batted ball did not exceed 350 ft. nor would have been a home run in over half the parks in the league. Aside from the benefits of the physical properties of the new bat, you have to think there are some psychological benefits of knowing you can really go pull heavy at home, not worrying as much about getting jammed.
Ben Rice, DH NYY (MLB)
2-for-4, HR, 2 R, RBI
After sitting in game two, Rice got back into the lineup and made an immediate impact with a second-deck no-doubter off of Aaron Civale. I can only sing his praises so much, but he’s a future middle of the lineup cog in this offense.
Dylan Crews, RF WSN (MLB)
0-for-3, 3 K
Not an ideal last two games as he’s struck out in his last 8 PA. Wouldn’t be surprised if he gets a breather on Monday.
