A little Daily Sheet after dark, work obligations got in the way of an MLB portion today, but we'll be back with it tomorrow.
Triple-A
Covered by Mitch Stachnik
Owen Caissie, RF CHC (Triple-A)
1-for-2, HR, R, RBI, 4 BB, K
Caissie appears to be stuck in Triple-A due to the success of the Cubs’ big league outfield. It would not be surprising if he became the headline piece in a trade that lands him on a major league roster and brings the Cubs some much needed starting pitching. Recently, it was reported that the Cubs have shown interest in Marlins starters Edward Cabrera and Sandy Alcantara. As well as, Pirates starter Mitch Keller.
‼️ Emmet Sheehan, SP LAD (Triple-A)
6.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 13 K
Eighteen up, eighteen down for Sheehan, who dominated in his outing yesterday with 13 of those outs coming via strikeout. The performance showcased his impressive arsenal, with his fastball averaging 97.5 mph. The Dodgers may need to bring him back up sooner rather than later.
‼️Cam Schlittler, SP NYY (Triple-A)
6.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, BB, 9 K
Schlittler uses his large 6'6" frame to create deception against hitters. He features a plus fastball that touches the high 90s and shows strong underlying metrics. He also mixes in a solid slider, sweeper, and curveball as part of his arsenal. Last night marked his fourth Triple-A start, and his performance lowered his ERA to 1.69.
Justin Crawford, CF PHI (Triple-A)
3-for-4, HR, 2 R, 1 RBI, BB
Crawford raised his already impressive batting average to .336 and knocked his second home run of the season yesterday. At just 21 years old and playing in Triple-A, Crawford has plus speed and is proving to be one of the more impressive players for his age. However, he will need to improve his 64.6% ground ball rate in order to rise in the prospect rankings.
C.J Kayfus, 1B CLE (Triple-A)
1-for-3, HR, 2 R, 4 RBI, BB, K
A 425 foot grand slam earned Kayfus a spot on the daily sheet, his second grand slam in as many games. Kayfus has skyrocketed up the prospect rankings this year and for good reason. This season, he is showing that he can be the future at first base for the Guardians. If he can also hold his own in a corner outfield spot, it only increases his value.
Luisangel Acuña, CF NYM (Triple-A)
2-for-5, 2 2B, R, RBI, K, SB
The younger brother of the Braves superstar was recently sent down to Triple-A and makes the daily sheet in just his second game for Syracuse. He played only two innings in center field at the major league level this season, but time in the minors could help him work through potential growing pains and better prepare him to patrol center field, as he has all the tools to succeed there.
Jakob Marsee, RF MIA (Triple-A)
2-for-4, HR, 3B, 2R, 3 RBI, BB, K
Marsee was one of the pieces in the deal that sent Luis Arráez to the Padres. His plus speed is his standout tool, as shown by the 39 steals he has already recorded this season. If his bat continues to develop, he could become more than just a fourth outfielder in the future.
🍔🍟Joey Wiemer, CF KC (Triple-A)
1-for-3, HR, 2 R, 3 RBI, BB, SB
A combo meal gets Wiemer on today’s daily sheet. Since the last trade deadline, Wiemer has been traded twice but is now looking to make a name for himself in the Royals’ farm system. He needs to improve his overall hitting approach if he wants to earn time at the major league level again.
Michael Helman, CF TEX (Triple-A)
4-for-6, HR, 4 R, 3 RBI
Helman is a super-utility player who can play all over the diamond, though the Rangers have primarily used him in center field. He made his MLB debut last year, but at 29 years old and with several areas of his game still needing improvement, time is running out for him to carve out a role at the big league level. He is on the 40-man roster and could see time if an injury occurs.
Kristian Campbell, 1B BOS (Triple-A)
0-for-4, 4 K
A golden sombrero for Campbell last night. Learning a new position can only be so much of an excuse for struggling like this against lower competition. Campbell is still a very talented player, but he is also a very expensive minor leaguer after signing a $60 million extension earlier this season. Three of his strikeouts came against the previously mentioned Cam Schlittler.
