11/30 LIDOM Recap: Cincinnati Reds Pitcher Shines in LIDOM Debut

On Monday night, all six teams were in action as the Tigres del Licey returned to action. The big news to kick off the week was that Yasiel Puig, Gary Sanchez, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr would be suiting up in the LIDOM. Vlad Jr will be playing for the Leones del Escogido and Sanchez and Puig for Toros del Este.

Gigantes del Cibao vs Tigres del Licey

Reds prospects Vladimir Gutierrez (number 14 on our Reds 2021 list) made his first start of the season for los Tigres and looked sharp. 4 IP, 0 R 2H 7K and threw 36 strikes on 46 pitches. His curveball was on point and kept los Gigantes off-balance.

Los Tigres jumped all over Diamondbacks prospect Rogelio Armenteros in the second inning as he just went 1.2 innings, allowing 6 runs, two of which were earned, and five hits and allowed a home run to free-agent catcher Wellington Castillo, who was DHing last night. Chicago White Sox farmhand Yermin Mercedes lead the Tigres attack with 2 hits and drove in a pair in the 8-5 win.

Toros del Este vs Aguilas Cibaeñas

For the Cibaeñas, St Louis Cardinals first baseman John Nogowski went 1-for-3 and drove in two as Aguilas won 6 to 2. Orioles prospect Marcos Diplan pitched three scoreless innings in relief and starter Ramon Rosso, a Phillies prospect who turned some heads with a velocity jump in the past year, went five innings, allowing four hits and striking out five. Another Cardinal, Rangel Ravelo, went 1-for-3.

For the Toros, Rays prospect Vidal Brujan went 0-for-3, and Marlins outfielder Jesús Sánchez also went 0-for-3. Padres infielder Jorge Mateo was one of the five hits for the Toros and former Braves farmhand Peter O’Brien went yard.

Leones del Escogido vs Estrellas Orientales

The Estrellas Orientales would score two in the sixth to give them the win over the Leones. Former Pirates left-hander prospect Domingo Robles, who was traded to St.Louis for cash in September, allowed the only run given up by the Orientales, in 2.2 innings of work. He struggled with command, allowing a pair of walks and two hits. The bullpen shut down the Leones the rest of the game.

A pair of infielder prospects in Jeremy Peña (HOU) and Domingo Leyba (ARI) both had two-hit days for the Orientales. Leyba’s single to right scored one and los Orientales scored another on a bad throw to home plate.
