As the baseball world witnesses the New York Mets bring in their first major offseason signing of James McCann, and many trying to figure out what the team might do next, here is a LIDOM update of Friday night games.

Tigres del Licey (1) vs Estrellas Orientales (3) — 7 inn

Tigres del Licey (5) vs Estrellas Orientales (3) — 7 inn

TIGRES DEL LICEY

  • Chicago White Sox prospect C: Yermin Mercedes, who received a brief cup of coffee in the majors in 2020, had a solid performance in Game 2 of the doubleheader, by going 2 for 3 with a single early in the ball game, and then a key single in the fifth inning that scored two runs, and provided Licey with the go-ahead runs, to untie the game. If he can continue to improve the defense, and carry his offensive performance from LIDOM 2020 into spring training, then he could be an intriguing player to watch.

  • Minor league infielder for the Cincinnati Reds Michael De Leon, had been struggling, but gave the Reds a potential glimmer of promise, by going 2 for 2 in game two of the double header.

  • Kent Emanuel, who is looking to be the next young pitcher to make an impact for the Houston Astros, fired 1.2 innings, giving up no runs, while walking one, and striking out two batters, and now has a season total of a 1.74 ERA, 1:14 (BB/K), in 10.1 innings.

ESTRELLAS ORIENTALES

  • The Houston Astros have to be pleased to watch the way Jeremy Pena is performing in the Dominican Professional Baseball League in 2020. The infielder, who played both doubleheaders, went for a combined 3 for 8, with three base knocks, as he looks to make a name for himself, heading into spring training.

  • Francisco Mejia, looking to regain his ceiling as a catching prospect, had a key single in game two, that drove in two runners, to help the Orientales get some runs on the board.

  • OF: Socrates Brito, who had been struggling, heading into the doubleheader, was able to come through in game two, with a solo home run, to help provide the Orientales with some offense.

  • Miami Marlins first baseman prospect Lewin Diaz, had a combined 2 for 5 showing in both games, and will look to make a strong impression throughout the rest of the LIDOM 2020 season, as the Marlins have high hopes for the young first baseman.

  • Gustavo Nunez, former MLB player, had a solid contribution towards the win in game one, going 2 for 3 at the plate, with 2 SB, contributing to a critical victory in game one.

  • LHP: Nestor Cortes, is looking to revitalize his career, by firing 4.0 innings, giving up 1 run, 2 BB, 6 K’s, to bring his season totals to a 2.87 ERA, 5:21 (BB/K), 1.02 WHIP, in 15.2 innings, and will look to build upon his performance, as the season moves along.

Leones del Escogido (4) vs Aguilas Cibaenas (7) — 9 inn

LEONES DEL ESCOGIDO

  • Vladimir Guerrero Jr. just continues to show off the bat, going 2 for 4, with two base hits, increasing his average from .333 to .355, to go along with a season total of 2 HR, 8 RBI, .394 OBP, and .645 SLG, as he looks to be the corner stone infielder for the Toronto Blue Jays for many years.

  • The Tampa Bay Rays, are a team that is on the lookout for catchers, and if Brett Sullivan can add to his performance, going 2 for 5, and raising his average up to .258, 2 HR, and 3 RBI, then he might be a player the Rays will watch closely, between both now and the coming spring.

  • The Kansas City Royals are expecting OF: Franchy Cordero to be a key part of the outfield picture, moving forward, and he went 2 for 5 at the plate, with a single, and a double.

  • The New York Yankees are hoping that OF: Estevan Florial can get his career back on track, and become a promising outfielder for the Yankees, when they originally signed him as an international free agent. Maybe he is starting to figure it out, with a 2 for 3 performance, and now boasts a .286 AVG, 1 HR, 5 RBI, 2 BR, and .380 OBP.

AGUILAS CIBAENAS

  • Former MLB player, Melky Cabrera, might start to catch some eyes, as he had a solid day at the plate, in a win, going 2 for 5, with a home run, and 2 RBI.

  • INF: Ramon Torres, currently a free agent, might not be off to a desirable LIDOM season, but he produced for Cibaenas, going 2 for 3, with a single, and double, and will look to have a strong finish, as he looks to find a landing spot for 2021.

  • St. Louis Cardinals 1B/OF: Rangel Ravelo, is having a solid LIDOM 2020 season, with two base hits, out of five trips to the plate, and now boasts a .309 AVG, 1 HR, 5 RBI, and .387 OBP. Whether his future career is with St, Louis or overseas, the first baseman and outfielder is looking to make a name for himself in a very competitive Dominican Professional Baseball League.

  • Former Baltimore Oriole, and now converted outfielder to pitcher, Dario Alvarez, threw 1.0 innings of scoreless baseball, with a strikeout, coming out of the bullpen.

Gigantes del Cibao (6) vs Toros del Este (1) — 7 inn

Gigantes del Cibao (5) vs Toros del Este (6) — 8 inn

GIGANTES DEL CIBAO

  • Jose Siri continues to add to his outstanding 2020 season in the Dominican Professional Baseball League, joining Cibao hit parade, by going 2 for 4 in the first game, with two doubles, 2 RBI. In the second game, 1 for 3 with a walk, and a solo home run, to begin the ball game. The free agent outfielder will hope that a strong performance thus far, will lead him to an opportunity to join a ball club in time for spring training.

  • Many of the Texas Rangers young players should have ample opportunities both heading into spring training and the start of the 2021 regular season, and the team has to be encouraged with Ronald Guzman’s performance in both games of the double header. A combined 2 for 8 with two singles, key RBI to start game one, and another RBI in game two, now boasts a .326 AVG, 4 HR, 11 RBI, and a .419 OBP. He could be a ball player to keep an eye on between both now and spring training.

  • Many former big leaguers had an excellent performance for the Gigantes. Alfredo Marte went 3 for 3 in game one, two base hits and a double, Juan Francisco in need of a good game, showed off his power, going 2 for 4 in game one, with a home run and 3 RBI, and lastly, Moises Sierra went 2 for 4, two singles, and an RBI.

  • The pitching bright spot was the starting pitcher in the first game RHP: Chris Ellis, who had a solid outing with 5.0 innings, 1 ER, 1 BB, and 7 strikeouts, which now brings his season totals to a 2.35 ERA, 7:24 (BB:K), 1.13 WHIP, in 23.0 innings.

    TOROS DEL ESTE

  • San Diego Padres prospect Jorge Mateo is showing off his talents in LIDOM 2020, by going a combined 3 for 6, with three base hits, and now he has a .328 AVG, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 4 SB, and .381 OBP.

  • Miguel Andujar, who is looking to revitalize his career and versatility for the New York Yankees, did not disappoint in both games of the doubleheader, with a walk, two doubles, and two base hits. He looks to make the opening day roster for the Yankees, coming out of spring training, especially with an infield that currently has some question marks.

  • Bullpen arm, Luis Santos, looking to latch on to an MLB team this offseason, had a good showing with 1.0 scoreless frame, and two strikeouts.

  • Tampa Bay Rays RHP: Joel Peguero, is having himself a great season for the Dominican Professional Baseball League, posted 1.0 inning of scoreless baseball, while giving up no walks, and 3 K’s for Este. Do not be fooled by his size, for he brings some ‘serious’ heat to the mound, with a fastball that can top out at 100 mph. While his command and feel for the pitch has been a question for him, his solid campaign thus far, has to be encouraging for the Rays, and will be an interesting name to watch between now and through spring training.
