The Tampa Bay Rays opened their 2018 Instructional League with a camp day that featured some of their top prospects. Wander Franco, Shane McLanahan, Matthew Liberatore, Shane Baz, and Nick Schnell all took part in various defensive drills before playing an intrasquad scrimmage.

Zach Kirtley, 1B Peoria Chiefs (St. Louis Cardinals) Video

Surprisingly advanced understanding of the zone. This is the third time I've seen him this season, 20 percent strikeout rate to 9 percent walk rate that will improve with reps.

Don't know if I see much power projection, line-drive hitter, gap power at best without plan adjustments. - Swing is compact, little bit of an exaggerated wrap up that if cleaned up, should shorten swing and improve approach even more.

Don't know what future is, but he's not mentioned enough in Cardinals prospect circles.

With the 2018 season winding down, I figured it would be a fun exercise to look at who I think performed the best at each position across ALL of the minor leagues. Think of it as my version of an All-American squad, or my First Team All-MiLB squad. Jason Woodell joined me on the Prospects Live podcast to discuss our first-team picks. (Where we disagree, I included his picks as well.) Now, I’m not trying to look into the future and pick players that project out to be the top guys at these positions, but that does play a small role in this. It’s like 85% stats from 2018 while still having some future projection, so I guess I’m cheating a bit. Whatever, I can do what I want over here. Let’s dive in…
