Dec 2020 Report

Evaluator: Jake Boes

Age: 19 yr
Height: 6-4
Weight: 215 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2018 IFA
RuleV: 2023

Physical Description: Mature, athletic body; tall, strong frame ideal for an outfielder. Broad shoulders, strong arms. Solid torso; upper-half developed more than lower; legs have significant strength projection remaining. Compared to Carlos Lee with more athleticism by White Sox officials.

Hit: Simple set-up; slightly open stance with feet just outside of shoulder width. Upright with a slight bend at the knee; fluid hands settle near the ear. High leg kick into load with a heavy coil; generates leverage nicely through disconnect between legs and hands, generating plus bat speed into a high finish. Feet and hips finish parallel to the pitcher; upper half finishes further toward the home dugout. Patient approach; looks for a pitch to drive. Unclear if this skill will remain stateside as pitchers tighten their stuff and fill the zone more. Average hit tool potential with lots of projection to reach the outcome. Grade: 50

Power: Plus raw power that figures to translate thanks to patience at the plate and a strong swing naturally geared for loft. Strong hip-turn through the zone causes power to heavily favor the pull field, but may display some centerfield drives in the future with continued pro instruction. Grade: 55

Field: Most project Bailey as destined for a corner outfield spot with the physical projection remaining; has enough athleticism and running ability to stick to either corner long-term. Grade: 50

Arm: Average arm fit for either corner; big, strong frame coupled with athleticism may even warrant above-average potential, but significant gains necessary to reach that projection. Grade: 50

Run: Above-average runner currently with double-digit steals in his first pro season; figures to settle in more around average or even fringe-average and would be surprised to see stolen base totals that high long-term at the highest levels. Grade: 50

Overall: A massive gap between what is and what could be, Bailey has the body, work ethic, and makeup attributes to help him reach his potential as a pro player. While there is the potential for Bailey to shoot up prospect boards even within the next 12 months, the limited looks and video available make him a true wildcard with an average, everyday corner outfielder within the realm of possibility, but not most likely.
