Height: 6-2
Weight: 205 lbs
Hits/Throws: S/R
Acquired: 2020 Draft - Round 4
RuleV: 2023

Physical Description: Tall, muscular frame. Thick lower half, toned calves. Muscular upper half; strong, broad shoulders. Physically maxed out.

Hit: Upright, open stance. Pull-oriented hitting approach; front hip has a tendency to fly open, leaving him vulnerable to offspeed stuff and anything on the outer half of the plate. Some head movement during the swing; below-average bat control. Above-average bat speed. Advanced, patient approach. Grade: 30

Power: Above-average raw power, especially from the left side; plays down in-games because of generally inefficient use of lower half in swing. Flatter swing path geared for lower-angle contact. Grade: 40

Field: Moves well laterally behind the plate. Has good hands and is adept at blocking and picking balls in the dirt. Pitch framing technique needs polish but has the hands and mental aptitude to improve in that area. Should be solid-average defensive catcher. Grade: 50

Arm: Quick transfer behind the plate; fringe raw arm strength and accuracy. Grade: 45

Run: Well below-average runner; not a particularly twitchy athlete. Grade: 30

Overall: Taylor's production at Virginia Tech (cumulative .332/.436/.495 slash in 237 plate appearances) was fantastic. It's difficult to perform at that high a level in the ACC as an underclassman, much less while logging most of your defensive innings at catcher. He's not a particularly toolsy player. Instead, he gets by with an advanced feel for the strike zone and a willingness to work deep counts. That's a profile that's tough to rely upon against MLB-caliber pitching, but Taylor has enough raw power and defensive skills to project as a backup or third catcher at the highest level.
