Aug 2021 Report

Evaluator: Joe Doyle

Age: 18 yr
Height: 6-2
Weight: 185 lbs
Hits/Throws: R-R
Acquired: 2021 Round 1
RuleV: 2025

Physical Description: Tall, broad shouldered infielder with long levers and a high waist. Plenty of bounce in his step. Yet to turn his leverage in the body into leverage at the plate.

Hit: Williams hit down on the ball and has some moving parts pre-swing that has some evaluators skeptical. Uses all fields but gets the most of his pure strength to the pullside. Needs to focus on syncing everything up at the plate to find consistency. Bat to ball skills are significant. Could turn into a solid average hitter. Grade: 55

Power: While Williams has some natural bat speed, his attack angle doesn't lend well to producing power just yet. He's a gap hitter with some pullside juice. Given the strength, projection and levers, Williams could tap into fringe average power as a pro. Grade: 45

Field: Quick-twitch, bouncy actions on the dirt with fast hands and explosivity in his movements. Strong on the diamond in a number of areas. At times lacks fluidity, instead leaning on his natural triggers to get the job done. Should develop well with time into at least an average defender. Good shot of sticking at shortstop. Grade: 50

Arm: Has tons of natural arm talent. Can make any throw from any arm angle. Very good coming in on the ball and strafing to his left. Not quite as smooth going into the hole just yet. Arm strength will play from any spot on the diamond. Comfortably above average, likely plus. Grade: 55

Run: Above average runner now, though he'll likely settle in as an average runner with more weight and development. Long strides, aggression on the basepaths. Not light on his feet, but not lumbering. Squarely average. Grade: 55

Overall: Williams is a twitchy, fiery middle infielder with bounce in his step and tons of projection at the plate. Before being drafted, Williams began tapping into some pullside power and spraying the ball with more authority to all field. He's quick hands and a strong arm, including on the mound, though most believe his future is on the dirt.
