Dec 2020 Report

Evaluator: Geoff Pontes

Age: 23 yr
Height: 6-5
Weight: 225 lbs
Hits/Throws: L/L
Acquired: 2019 Draft - Round 18
RuleV: 2022

Physical Description: Tall and well built at 6-foot-5 with an extremely muscular frame. Little to no projection remaining. Major League ready body, Belge's physicality stands out.

Delivery & Mechanics: Works from the stretch exclusively, moderate leg lift, over the top arm action and release point. Strong leg block and repeatable mechanics keep him around the strike zone. A bit of a claw arm action and motion as it's heavily over the top. Doesn't do a great job of always staying on time and arm will lag a tick behind.

Fastball: Sits 92-95 mph from the left side with some late tail on his fastball. There's limited vertical break and the pitch seems to play best East to West more than North to South. Due to the nature of his movement he struggles to consistently land the pitch for strikes. By the same token this makes the pitch difficult to barrel. All things considered an average offering. Grade: 50

Curveball: Loopy 12-6 breaking ball that works from his over the top slot. Around average drop with some ability to land at the bottom of the zone. Shows feel for the pitch and confidence to use it as an out pitch in two strike counts. Ahead of his slider but still a fringe average pitch. Good velocity at 81-84 mph. Grade: 45

Slider: Less vertical than his curveball with some cutter elements. Seemed to show two shapes, one that was more of a traditional slider with slight cutter movement at 82-84 mph and a harder cutter at 87-89 mph. We didn't see enough of the cutter or have it show in the data but it's something to note. Showed it multiple times in his full season debut with Great Lakes on August 21st. A fringe average pitch with some promise. Grade: 45

Control and Command: Despite strong strike throwing overall Belge is prone to missing spots with his fastball and generally lacking the necessary command of the pitch to get higher level hitters out. It's more of a work in progress than a non-starter. His secondaries also lack consistency but he tends to do a good job of keeping them in and around the zone. His ability to make it to the big leagues will depend heavily on his ability to control his fastball. Control: 40 | Command: 30

Overall: A potential multi-inning reliever with above average velocity from the left side and two promising secondaries. He has thrown a changeup in the past but did not show it across multiple looks. There's little chance of Belge starting but due to his slot, size, and velocity but there's something for Dodgers player development to work with. It's an extremely risky profile for a college arm, but few 18th rounders make it past their first two years of pro ball.
