Feb 2021 Report

Evaluator: Tyler Henninger

Age: 21 yr
Height: 6-4
Weight: 185 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2017 Round 2
RuleV: 2021

Physical Description: Tall, lanky build. Overall body strength. Long, loose arms. Long, tapering legs. Room to fill out, more strength with maturity.

Hit: Open stance, hands high at head, high back elbow. Body upright with wide base. Simple load, small leg kick with slight hand hitch. Quick bat speed. Uppercut, creates natural loft. Good lower half drive, torque. Makes hard contact. Pull side approach, shows ability to go up the middle. Length in swing at times, leads to swing and miss tendencies. Room to grow in approach. Struggles with elite spin and elevated fastballs, better against LHP. Grade: 40

Power: Plus raw power, above average game power. Ball jumps off the bat, run production type power. Obvious strength, generates good bat speed. Bat path and approach create good loft. Good lower half torque, drives ball to left center frequently. Added strength will give power boost. Grade: 55

Field: Solid defensive actions. Will make routine play. Athletic movements, good body control. Moves decent to both sides, size and speed slightly hinder range. Reliable hands. Has basic skills needed, flashes ability to make tough play. Grade: 50

Arm: Live, strong arm. Carries through the bag. Good throwing mechanics. On target when body control there, can get erratic when feet aren't under him. Good ball transfer, quick release. Prototypical 3B arm. Grade: 55

Run: Well below-average speed. Slow first step out of box. Long strides, heavy footed. Labors to run, not built for speed. Doesn't always hustle. Grade: 30

Overall: Vientos' size immediately stands out. He has a tall, lanky body with obvious room to develop more strength. His power potential is his carrying tool. Quick bat speed and flyball mentality has potential to do damage. He needs to improve his spin recognition and swing consistency. Transitioned from SS to 3B entering proball. Moves well for a guy his size with reliable hands that allow him to make the routine play. His above average arm profiles well at 3B. Could improve his accuracy slightly, but arm is very much playable at the position. A well below-average runner, do not expect much on the bases. Likely a platoon type player with the chance to rely on power and develop into an average everyday regular.
