Acquired: 2020 Round 1

Physical Description: Strong physical build but below average size. High level athleticism that allows him to generate explosive movement from a compact frame. High level of physical conditioning.

Delivery & Mechanics: Semi-windup; drop and drive delivery; short, hook arm action, 3/4 slot, fast arm. Repeats well, gets elite extension despite smaller frame, and generates lots of explosion off the mound. Due to this there's a fair amount of effort in the delivery.

Fastball: Sits 93-96 mph, clocked as high as 99 in the spring of 2020. Good velocity and excellent control of the pitch, pounding all four quadrants. These characteristics makeup for generic shape. As it's flat and lacks a ton of ride. Despite this it's an above-average offering due to velocity and command. Grade: 55

Slider: Tight slider with devastating late dump. Sits 88-90 mph, thrown hard and with almost as much frequency as his fastball. True swing and miss weapon missing bats at a high rate. Tough to barrel and most hard contact is beaten into the ground. Though contact of any kind is rare. Double-plus pitch and arguably the best pitch in the 2020 draft. Grade: 70

Changeup: Hard changeup with late run and tumble. Sits 86-88 mph, used heavily versus lefties and righties. Not afraid to throw the pitch in any count. Late break tunnels well off fastball and slider. Lands heavily low to both sides of the plate. Sells it with arm speed. Above-average changeup. Grade: 55

Control and Command: Plus control and above-average command. Despite a high effort delivery that generates great movement and velocity; Meyer does not struggle with the command woes synonymous with that archetype. Commands all three of his pitches and keeps hitters guessing with advanced sequencing. Control: 60 | Command: 55

Overall: A freak athlete with three average or better pitches, headlined by a true weapon in his slider. Meyer posses all the qualities you look for in a frontline starter. Great stuff, advanced strike throwing ability, and a competitive edge. His fastball is pushing triple digits and his slider is so good that it can be used interchangeably with the fastball. His changeup is an underrated pitch, it was incredibly effective in college and showed confidence by using it >20% of the time. There's some concerns about his height and high effort mechanics but it's done little to curb his performance as a starter thus far. One of the few frontline starting pitching prospects in the game.
