Nov 2020 Report

Evaluator: Joe Drake

Age: 20 yr
Height: 5-11
Weight: 175 lbs
Hits/Throws: B/R
Acquired: 2017 IFA
RuleV: 2021

Physical Description: Solid frame with a muscular build. Filled out, not much room for more weight. Strong legs, round butt, broad shoulders -- almost look too big for his body. Appears relatively lean; certainly not skinny. Maybe not quite as tall as listed 5'11. Built like a 2B.

Hit: Switch hitter with a different trigger for each side. Left: Sits into back leg with moderate bend. Hands at the eyes with the bat over the shoulder, perpendicular to the body. Slight waggle. Torso stars with a slight coil. Uses small toe tap as trigger; very little additional coil, but gets average separation. Hands travel down and back to shoulder for launch. Right: Very similar to the left. May be his natural side, ball jumps off the bat a little more and the bat speed looks just a touch faster. There's some steepness to the bat path and a high finish on both sides. High effort swing looking to do damage -- pulls his head off the ball. Able to finish balanced despite the effort. Very comfortable in the box, even against older competition. Good idea of the zone and shows patience. Struggles to square some pitches he should drive. Package is below average right now, but has the talent and approach that track toward an above-average tool. Grade: 55

Power: Average bat speed and good loft will help maximize his game power. Frame doesn't lead you to believe much more raw power is coming without really packing on muscle, but he's going to get the most out of everything he's got. Looking at probably 15-20 HRs with a bunch of doubles in his best years. Grade: 45

Field: Solid average actions on the infield and decent instincts. Won't wow you, but will make the plays he should. First step could use work, takes him a second to read the ball which will keep him from making tough plays at the end of his range. Movements can get a little choppy and stiff at times, but usually smooth. Grade: 45

Arm: Limited looks at the arm, but it appears suited for lesser roles. Has enough zip for any throws at 2nd, but nothing that hints he could slide to 3rd should he outgrow the middle infield. Fringy defense and range don't help it play up at all. Grade: 45

Run: Clocked 4.17 H-1st from the left side, 4.33 from the right. Runs well underway but isn't always smooth getting up to speed. Movements are clumsy on occasion. Likely to add a little weight and slow down as he matures, moving him closer to a fringe-average runner. Any steals will come from baserunning savvy, not pure speed. Grade: 45

Overall: Bat-first second base profile describes Bracho well. Has the makings of an solid hitter with some pop in addition to fringy athleticism and defensive tools. The bat is probably a little light to profile anywhere else, but he shouldn't have a problem sticking at second unless his conditioning goes off the rails. There's a chance he fills out more and develops more power, but it would come at a direct cost to the little speed that he has. The development of his hit tool will ultimately decide his ceiling. If he's able to maximize it he's probably closer to an average regular. If things go awry, he's a below-average starter or a bench bat.
