Dec 2020 Report

Evaluator: James Chipman

Age: 24 yr
Height: 5-10
Weight: 220 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2017 IFA
RuleV: 2021

Physical Description: Short, stocky build; mild slope to broad shoulders with a long torso, long limbs; barrel chest and sturdy thick lower half. Thick body that will need to be maintained; physically maxed out.

Delivery & Mechanics: Stretch only; drop and drive; tilts to clear arm through extremely fast and powerful arm stroke. High 3/4 arm slot with high effort delivery. High leg kick; long stride with impressive extension. Inconsistent mechanics: timing and explosion towards plate varies; arm-slot wanders. Foot strike flexed and extremely stiff at times. Falls hard first base side.

Fastball: Pumps consistent double-plus velocity, sitting 95-97 t99. Shows late arm-side run and riding life; heavy sink when it's pounded in the lower third of the zone. Has control; offering has below-average command. Generates weak contact low and overpowering whiffs in and out of the zone. Misses are predominantly glove side and low. Grade: 60

Slider: Inconsistent; lacks feel. Sits 86-90. Firm short horizontal cutter action around 89-90. Occasionally shows a more optimal sharpness with tilt and bite around 86-87 mph. Swing and miss is predominantly chase pitches out of the zone. Struggles with control, heavy usage out of the zone glove side; greater feel and tightened break can push the offering to average; without it's fringy at best. Grade: 45

Control and Command: Inconsistent mechanics limit control and command. Relies on velocity to bail out lack of command. Predictable sequencing, leans on the heat early and often; mixes in SL only when ahead as a chaser. Standard power reliever control over command profile. Struggles to limit walks; lacks consistency locating off-speed offerings in zone. Flashes feel for off-speed offerings but consistency wavers; fastball can be scattershot Control: 40 | Command: 30

Overall: Significant gains with mechanics, command and improved consistency in the slider are necessary for me to squint and see a productive big league future. There's modest role 40 reliever potential should some of that come to fruition. A more realistic future is a decent role-30, high minors depth arm - a solid lotto ticket given the upside of his velocity and mound presence.
