Jan 2021 Report

Evaluator: Jake Kerns

Age: 25 yr
Height: 6-1
Weight: 175 lbs
Hits/Throws: L/R
Acquired: 2014 IFA
RuleV: Eligible

Physical Description: Above-average height and slight frame. Has some room to fill out, but has yet to do so into his mid-20s. High IQ player.

Hit: Crouched stance that is regularly open; closes in certain situations and counts. Keeps his hands high and in front of his left ear, reminiscent of many Korean hitters. Slight leg kick as he steps into the pitch. Balanced, technically sound swing that is easy and repeatable. Uses his whole body to generate average bat speed. Good barrel control and notably fights off velocity. Can use the whole field, but is a slap hitter that puts a lot of balls on the ground; has the speed to beat them out. Shows an above-average eye and lays off pitches away and out of the zone. Flashes an ability to bunt. Speed helps the tool play up, but the overall package will lead to an empty batting average. Grade: 45

Power: Fringe-average raw power that materializes mostly as gap power during games. Creates natural loft off the bat, but his approach is geared more towards putting the ball in play. Grade: 40

Field: Average range at SS that plays up due to his positioning and above-average glovework. Has soft hands. Good situational awareness at SS. Keeps the ball in front of him. Covers the bag well and makes the tag on base stealers. Grade: 50

Arm: Average arm strength at SS. Shows good carry across the diamond. Throws were on target in looks. Grade: 50

Run: Timed at and around 4.10 down the line from the left side. Heads up runner that has the speed to take an extra base on balls hit to the grass. A good base stealer that could swipe double digits at the major league level. Grade: 60

Overall: Park offers an advanced approach at the plate and projects as a future fringe-average hitter. He has the defensive chops to stick at SS and enough speed on the basepaths to take a base, but the lack of power that is becoming the norm at the position holds him back. It's a backup profile if he maxes out, and he still has some work to do to get there. He'll be 25 to begin the minor league season and was passed over in the 2020 Rule V Draft.
