Mar 2021 Report

Evaluator: Jake Kerns

Age: 20 yr
Height: 5-11
Weight: 160 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2018 IFA
RuleV: 2022

Physical Description: Average height. Has notably filled out since signing; has thick thighs with new upper body strength. Looks to be close to physically maxed.

Hit: Stands crouched and open. Low in the box. Hands stay high and back. High amount of pre-pitch hand, bat, and left foot movement prior to loading. Keeps his weight on his back foot and has a moderate leg kick toward the pitcher. Wide base at impact. The pre-pitch movement creates some noise in the swing which can lead to his upper and lower body being out of sync. Linear swing that creates line drive contact off that bat, but it is mostly weak contact. Average bat speed. Shows a feel for the strike zone but tends to swing early and often on pitches in and around the zone. He has good pitch recognition for someone his age and has a knack for getting the barrel on the ball. His approach has yet to result in high strikeout rates, but added patience as he moves up the ladder would suit him well. He is also yet to truly impact the ball, but his bat-to-ball skills could push this grade to average in time. Grade: 45

Power: Below-average raw power that plays below that in games. Does a good job with getting the ball off the ground, and has had more fly outs than ground outs in just over 350 minor league at-bats. He is yet to hit a professional home run, which is both indicative of his average bat speed and his approach. Jimenez sits low in his stance but does not create good leverage on the ball. He needs to better utilize his hips to create a more rotational swing. As it stands, he simply tries to put the ball in play. His added muscle may unlock some additional in-game power. Grade: 40

Field: Moves well laterally despite his added bulk. Covers an above-average amount of ground. Stays low and keeps the ball in front of him. Charges the ball when he needs to and can make some difficult plays. Glovework remains unrefined, but he's making progress. Has notable experience at both 2B and SS, and he played a game at 3B in 2019. Can be average at SS and potentially plus at 2B, where the whole package fits best. Grade: 55

Arm: Strong arm that plays at SS and fits even better at 2B. Throws from a low side-arm slot but can reach back for more. Gets the ball out quick and shows a natural ability to throw to both 1B and 2B from SS and 2B. Throws were on target in looks. Grade: 55

Run: No recent times with his added bulk, but he appears to be an average or slightly better straight-line runner. Not a threat to steal. Grade: 50

Overall: Above average runner that clocks plus home to first times, and has hustle on the base paths. However, he's an overly aggressive and below average base stealer running an unimpressive rate of success, despite strong totals. Still a valuable element of his game in both sides of the ball.
