Physical Description: Very large man. Big frame, broad shoulders, muscular build, athletic. Football linebacker type.
Hit: Stands fairly upright at the plate, hands back just below shoulder level with elbow up and back during load. Quick bat. Creates good loft. Swing is smooth but can get long. Overall mechanical and timing issues have resulted in a career 37% minor league strikeout rate. Good pitch recognition but sometimes his patience borders on passivity. Grade: 30
Power: Big-time raw power. Swing creates good loft and leverage. Very easy power. When he gets a hold of one the ball explodes off the bat and travels a very long way. Grade: 60
Field: Covers good ground with his speed. Gets to balls that others may not. Average in center, but a greater asset in right. Grade: 55
Arm: Arm viewed as plus to even plus-plus. Makes strong accurate throws, profile for RF. Grade: 60
Run: Runs well, especially for his size. Has proven to be an effective baserunner and base stealer. Speed to close on balls in the outfield and make plays with his legs. Grade: 55
Overall: Benson is an athletic specimen. He has four above-average tools. Showed off power potential with a four-homer game for Lake County in 2019. Without an improvement in the hit tool, he will end up a bench/platoon player who can offer some speed, pop, and take a walk.
