Dec 2020 Report

Evaluator: Joe Drake

Age: 19 yr
Height: 6-0
Weight: 198 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2017 IFA
RuleV: 2021

Physical Description: Solidly built with thick legs. Frame is average but already has good muscle on it. Long legs with long femurs. Average shoulders, squared off a bit already. Already near max development; not much room for additional weight. Live, powerful body. Rotates well.

Hit: Sets up tall and stiff. Very minor knee bend. Hands sit chest-high with bat mostly upright. Little rocking in the hands. Slightly wide base, open about a foot length. Big, long, exaggerated load with a huge leg kick that hangs and hangs. Comes waist high and then turns in as he coils before stretching to the ground about as far as he can reach. Crouches as he coils with forward bend. Hands drift straight back a few inches. Lots of moving parts, hard to see it being repeatable and likely to be late on velocity. Above-average separation and rotates well. High-effort cut with an upward plane. Very few game looks, but swings to hit the ball as hard as he can; plus bat speed. Reckless approach at the plate makes for a ton of swing and miss, but athletic enough to make contact when fooled. Zone recognition appears limited, little interest in taking a walk. Athletic enough to develop a fringe-average hit tool, but will need a complete overhaul to get there. Grade: 30

Power: Ball jumps off the bat despite average size. Generates plus bat speed. Swings with intent to lift and drive. Easy pull pop with potential for more. There's probably 60 raw in the bat, but subpar contact skills severely limit game pop. Grade: 45

Field: Very limited looks, tool most likely to change. Actions are fine; athletic enough to move smoothly but range is average at best. Corner outfield profile with the arm for right. Grade: 50

Arm: Solid arm due to powerful body. Rotates well, gets power into throws. Very limited looks but appears to be at least average if not better. Enough strength to play anywhere on the field. Grade: 50

Run: Clocked a 4.26 H-1st. Moves athletically, but top end speed appears limited. Gets out of the box quickly and up to speed in a few steps. With the frame nearly maxed, all additional weight risks slowing him down. Grade: 45

Overall: Power-first corner outfield profile with extreme hit concerns. Athleticism and rotational power create plus bat speed -- the ball is LOUD off the bat -- and solid arm, however, the approach is about as bad as it gets on top of serious swing and miss concerns. There's potential for a bench bat if the hit tool develops, but it would take a complete overhaul. It's unlikely, but if there's an org that can do it, it's the Dodgers. The floor here is an org depth caliber player who doesn't hit in the upper minors.
