Spring Training Daily Sheet 3/17/2025: Jacob Wilson?
Nate is back from his bus ride to Idaho, and he is back spreading the word about Jacob Wilson and his exploits in the Cactus League. Rhys wonders if there is a younger version of Jacob Wilson that has emerged in the Grapefruit portion of the Spring Training Daily Sheet.

Reasoning: I believe this is the easiest division to predict in baseball right now, which means I will probably be completely wrong. The Dodgers despite the pitching injuries have a dozen guys that could start for them and a lineup to match the top 3 staff. Instead of considering why their pitchers get hurt so often, they instead opted to develop the most pitching depth in the league for when guys go down. The Diamondbacks made some great win-now moves in acquiring Naylor and signing Burnes. The Padres have a serious depth problem, but Tirso Ornelas might win ROTY in typical Padres fashion shutting us all up about their potential holes. The Giants are making the right moves but are not a serious playoff contender yet, and the Rockies might be my least watched team this year.
Rhys' NL West Predictions
1 Los Angeles Dodgers
2 San Diego Padres
3 Arizona Diamondbacks
4 San Francisco Giants
5 Colorado Rockies
Reasoning: I mean, what is there to say about the Dodgers? They’re the best team in baseball by a wide margin—when everyone is healthy. Their rotation is headlined by some of the best pitchers in the game, and oh yeah, they also have some guy named Shohei Ohtani. The Padres are a high-variance team—if everything clicks, they have the offensive firepower to be a top-10 offense, and their rotation is solid. The Diamondbacks and Padres shouldn’t be separated by more than a game or two by season’s end. Getting Burnes is a great move for everyone involved, and hopefully, we see a Corbin Carroll bounceback. The Giants are trending in the right direction but will need their stellar pitching to be backed by elite defense, as the lineup is still a bit light. And then there are the Rockies—who are firmly in contention for the worst team in baseball.

A golden sombrero for your favorite and my favorite catcher/first-base prospect. He will be fine, because people seem to care about Spring Training struggles, I think he’ll be up around the second half of the season, and maybe just maybe he can learn form Gary Sanchez how to go to a questionable defender to a viable one. Plus maybe for fantasy playoff reasons maybe he can go on a run like Gary Sanchez did when he got called up, that helped me win quite a few fantasy leagues.
