Physical Description: Strong, broad-shouldered build, slightly above average height. Physically mature, unlikely to add much additional mass.
Hit: Open stance, slight bend in back knee, hands set by back shoulder, moderate leg kick with steep bat angle at the point of contact. Stott shows the ability to adjust and manipulate the bat head depending on pitch location. Takes what the pitcher gives him and doesn't sell out for power. Works deep into counts, plus on base skills, approach will border on passive, taking more looking strikes than you'd like. Will swing and miss on elevated velocity up in the zone. Above average tool buoyed by approach and contact skills. Grade: 55
Power: Good bat angle and the ability to turn on pitches on the inner-half, Stott has strength but his physicality has yet to fully materialize in game. It's mostly pullside power, but it's driven by his bat path and steep angle more than hard contact. In other words his swing path drives his heavy flyball approach. Reports from the ATS are promising with hope this grade can push into above average territory in a years time. Average game power with some hope for more long term Grade: 50
Field: Average shortstop defender, lacks range but his instincts, first step and actions are all strong. Likely lacks the athleticism for the position long term but he could develop into an above average third baseman or second baseman. Definitely an infielder long term that could have some value in his ability to cover multiple positions. Grade: 50
Arm: Strong but sometimes wild arm. Struggles with consistency of release and doesn't have the sort of athleticism to make quality jump throws. Enough arm strength for third base should his below average athleticism move him there. Grade: 55
Run: Average runner that will reach above average top speeds underway. Good base runner, shows smart instincts and the ability to steal a base when needed. Grade: 50
Overall: Average tools or better across the board with no standout skill outside his on base ability. Should provide a potential leadoff type skill set despite not being a burner. Strong all-around offensive game with some projection possibly remaining in his power. He's on the cusp of an above average role, due to a combination of skills, but lacks the power or plus defensive profile at shortstop to get there. A strong everyday player likely at third base long term.
