Feb 2021 Report

Evaluator: Tyler Henninger

Age: 22 yr
Height: 6-3
Weight: 215 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired:
RuleV: Eligible

Physical Description: Tall, large frame. Extremely strong, impressive physically. Muscular thighs and legs. Powerful upper body. Wide shoulders with strength through chest. Limited growth potential.

Hit: Open stance, hands high at the head. Upright body with feet shoulder width apart. Minimal hand load with a slight barrel wrap. Recently converted from leg kick to toe tap timing mechanism. Above-average bat speed with an uppercut path. Fly ball approach. Sells out for power leading to poor bat to ball skills. Aggressive, wants to hit. Turns into a free swinger at times, chases too many pitches. Needs to improve pitch recognition, exposed by average or better spin. On front foot often. Pitch recognition and ability to hit offspeed will determine if he can hit enough to contribute in the upper levels. Grade: 30

Power: Double plus raw power with above average bat speed and strength. Lack of contact ability sap game power slightly, plays at a plus grade. Obvious strength, power to all fields. Hits them high and far. Run production type power. Grade: 60

Field: Solid defender. Covers good amount of ground for a big guy, but won't make highlight-reel play. Reads ball off bat well, gets good jumps and runs decent routes. Catches what he gets to. Has basic skills needed for RF. Grade: 50

Arm: Strong, accurate arm with proper throwing mechanics. Carries through the bag. On target. Ability to throw out runners, will prevent extra base. Prototypical RF arm. Grade: 60

Run: Below-average runner, but decent for his size. Slow first step out of box with average acceleration. Typically 4.40 to 4.45 home to 1st. Some stiffness in lower half. Plays better on defensive side. Playable for position. Grade: 40

Overall: There is no doubt Ortiz has power that can change a game. His above average bat speed and uppercut path allows him to drive the ball to all fields and hit light tower HR. He has run production type power, but the question is if he can make enough contact to use it. Defensively, there have been questions raised if he can stay in RF, but he should be able to stick. He will never be a highlight-reel making player, but he is playable at the position and his plus arm should provide value as he has shown the ability to throw out runners. Ortiz needs to make major improvements to his approach and pitch recognition. If he does so he has the chance to be a below average player, if not, he will be stuck as an up/down guy.

Feb 2021 Report

Evaluator: Mike Kinsela

Age: 22 yr
Height: 5-11
Weight: 175 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2020 Round 3
RuleV: 2023

Physical Description: Martin is a slender, athletically-built player with high-end athleticism and some projection remaining on his body, though the speed is such an important part of his game it's hard to know how much projection is advisable.

Hit: The biggest issue of Martin's profile, he struggles with swing-and-miss consistently and has struck out quite a bit through his amateur career even in spite of the gaudy underclassmen numbers. It's a swing that gets too uphill, dipping his back shoulder and take him off plane, creating a very small hard contact zone which he doesn't have the barrel adjustability skills to get to consistently. Grade: 30

Power: Martin has above-average raw power in spite of his slender frame, capable of driving the ball out of any park pull-side. The problems come in when that's the entirety of his approach-hitting the ball in the air pull-side. The power projects, as he's likely to add some strength to his frame, but the hit tool concerns will keep him from really taking advantage of it. Grade: 45

Field: Martin plays shortstop presently and has the athleticism, range, footwork, and arm strength to make it work there, though his hands and internal timer are both below average. The game very clearly speeds up on him defensively and he's equally likely to make a spectacular play as he is to kick a routine grounder right at him. The tools are there, but he's a better fit in CF in this scout's view. Grade: 50

Arm: The raw arm strength is above average, though Martin struggles a bit with consistency in terms of his release as well as the internal timer. The arm will play from wherever he's positioned, and he's had experience at 3B as well as SS, though again, center field seems like the most likely outcome here. Grade: 50

Run: Martin's best tool, he's a real burner who can turn in elite times down the line and consistently clocks 70 times from the right side of the plate. It's speed that is impactful on the bases, as he's a true stolen base threat, and that speed is one of the reasons why some scouts prefer him in CF vs. shortstop. Grade: 70

Overall: Martin has intriguing power/speed upside with middle field defensive projection, and the 99th percentile outcome here might be a 20/20 guy at the highest level with good defense in CF. The most likely outcome is something similar to Brock Deatherage, whose contact inconsistencies cause his power/speed tools to play way, way down.

Feb 2021 Report

Evaluator: Ian Smith

Age: 22 yr
Height: 6-4
Weight: 228 lbs
Hits/Throws: L/R
Acquired: 2020 Round 5
RuleV: 2023

Physical Description: An absolute physical freak. Hulking shoulders and chiseled frame that's completely maxed out. Built very similar to another former Georgia Tech great, Calvin Johnson.

Hit: Imposing figure when stepping into the box. Radcliff gives himself a wide base, open base to work out of with his hand and elbow sitting high preload. Will incorporate a heel turn and toe tap to begin his swing into a short, compact swing for his frame. Keeps the barrel through the well and impacts the ball with purpose. Bat speed is easy to see and uses his lower half well. Minimal wasted effort in his overall swing. There is a slight uppercut to his bat path to create loft, and will use the entire field when he's locked in. Problem is, he's not always locked in. There is a fair amount of swing and miss to Radcliff's game, and most concerning is the frequency of zone misses. He's patient to the point of passive frequently getting himself deep into counts, which will lead to walks, but also plenty of Ks. Grade: 30

Power: Legitimate plus-plus raw power explodes off of the bat of Radcliff. His shots at Georgia Tech were simply known as "Baron Missiles". Short, simple swing allows his plus bat speed to attack the ball at quality points of contact consistently, while creating easy carry on the ball. Nearly half of Radcliff's hits in college came via the extra base hit. Power can play up to all fields with an average exit velo in 2020 of north of 96MPH, and a max of nearly 120. Simply put, there's very few players with this type of true raw power ability in their profile. It's all a matter of making contact. Grade: 60

Field: Another area where Radcliff's athleticism stands out. Makes quality reads and will take efficient routes to the ball. Long strides and his massive frame allow Radcliff to cover a wide range of ground in either corner. Footwork for his size is not too common, and shows the confidence and ability to attack balls moving forward or on the chase. His hands are another story as he struggles to get into good fielding positions whether in the outfield or at first base. Like much of Radcliff's game the tools are there, it's all a matter of honing them into skills. Grade: 40

Arm: Radcliff will uncork some big throws with easy carry but can lose some accuracy often. Short arm action forces Radcliff to more or less push the ball to the target instead of getting his weight behind his throws. Grade: 45

Run: Moves extremely well for his size. Has been clocked at near plus times in the 60 with elite level splits. A long strider who will cover tons of ground while reaching top speed quickly. Could lose a step as he continues to mature, but his athleticism could keep Radcliff a high level for a long time Grade: 55

Overall: Radcliff fits the mold of a prototype power hitting corner outfield to a tee. Armed with some of the best raw power in the entire Phillies organization, as well as near plus speed, Radcliff has a chance to dig out a consistent big league role if he can make enough consistent contact going forward.

Feb 2021 Report

Evaluator: Trevor Hooth

Age: 22 yr
Height: 6-3
Weight: 180 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/L
Acquired: 2017 Round 5
RuleV: 2021

Physical Description: Long limbs for his size. Sloping shoulders. There is some more room to add to the frame.

Delivery & Mechanics: Standard 3/4 arm slot. Easy, repeatable delivery. Works quickly, likes to get the ball and go. Body starts off center towards first base. Hands are at his neck and drop to his stomach on the rocker step. As his leg comes up for his balance point the hands rise before they all push down together. He lands slightly closed off, so he throws across his body. His foot drags on the follow throw before coming up for a small leg kick at the end, and he finishes square to the plate.

Fastball: 87-89 T92. Pretty straight, some arm-side run when thrown to the arm side. He commands this pitch well and can spot it all around the zone. Works well off other pitches, and can even become a whiff creator when the other pitches are working. Creates a lot of fly balls. When the other pitches aren't complimenting this pitch, it can be hit around a lot. The command of his entire arsenal helps this pitch to play up in times during games, but it needs a few ticks to really get up a half grade or more. Grade: 45

Curveball: 73-75. Works best when it takes on a 12-6 shape, but every so often it can bleed into the slider and look like more of a slurve. Will use in any count. Can spot to the corners. It can get loopy, and when it does it becomes hittable. It's best used as an asset to create weak contact rather than whiffs. Grade: 45

Slider: 82-84. Sharp sweep on the movement. There is a small amount of depth as well. He likes this pitch a lot against lefties, but he does use it to change pace for righties as well. His ability to create whiffs with it is as a backdoor pitch to righties. He commands this pitch very well to both sides of the plate. Grade: 50

Changeup: 80-81. Good deception. Tumbled at the bottom of the zone. This pitch garners some ugly swings. It can go under utilized sometimes. When it isn't getting whiffs, it's getting a weak grounder. It's his best pitch. Results, coupled with his command of the pitch make it an above average offering. Grade: 55

Control and Command: Not only does Lindow throw a lot of strikes, he throws a lot of competitive strikes. He posted above average walk and strikeout numbers in the lower levels of the minors. He can control his entire arsenal to both sides of the plate. He rarely misses badly off his intended target. Most of his misses are below the zone or just off of a corner. His control is easily plus and the command is not too far behind it. Control: 60 | Command: 55

Overall: The biggest detractor from Lindow is his below average velocity across the board. He really fits the mold of a crafty lefty. His ability to command all four of his pitches around the zone is what helps him to be successful. There is some projection left on the frame, and any ticks on the fastball will help. Even 3-4 MPH extra could make Lindow really pop. As is though he should be able to start games at the major league level.

Feb 2021 Report

Evaluator: Isaiah Burrows

Age: 24 yr
Height: 5-11
Weight: 200 lbs
Hits/Throws: L/L
Acquired: 2016 Round 4
RuleV: On 40 Man Roster

Physical Description: Makes up for lack of height with his physical frame. Solid, compact build to his upper and lower half. Broad shoulders and thick thighs. Good physical traits on the mound.

Delivery & Mechanics: Shortened 3/4 arm slot delivery from the left side. Doesn't get much over-the-top action. Clean, fluid arm action with little hiccups in delivery. Good extension and placement from the stretch.

Fastball: Mid-90s offering with good sink and fade out of the zone. Four seam fastball Touches 95-96, sinker primarily sits 92-94. Spots it well low and away. Has late life for whiffs and soft contact. Good velocity and late movement play well off one another. Above-average pitch in his arsenal. Grade: 55

Slider: Mid-80s slider that needs a bit more refinement as a consistent offering. Sits 83-85 with good horizontal break, lacks consistency at times. Slider tends to stay flat up in the zone and gets barreled for extra bases. Ability to command the pitch against righties can help tremendously. Grade: 50

Changeup: Another mid-80s offering that shows potential as a solid third pitch. Changeup sits 84-85, takes a good amount of velocity to his fastball. Good sink and armside fade, lacks reps and consistency. Occasionally thrown in the big leagues last year. Capable of becoming an above-average pitch, needs to show it over the course of a season. Grade: 45

Control and Command: Throws high-quality strikes and fills the zone with a bulldog mentality. Struggled to command his off-speed in the big leagues, but steadily improved over the year. Locates his sinker/fastball well in the zone for whiffs. Has strikeout quality stuff, hits his spots well. Surrendered lots of extra base hits, controlling his repertoire will pay dividends down the road. Control: 45 | Command: 40

Overall: Romero flashed his quality stuff in his big league debut last season, but struggles with command held him back at points. His sinker and four seam fastball have such distinct movements and sustained velocity that play well off each other. Romero's slider and changeup have good movement and break, but his ability to command each one will likely reveal his role as a reliever.

Feb 2021 Report

Evaluator: Jake Kerns

Age: 22 yr
Height: 6-1
Weight: 175 lbs
Hits/Throws: L/L
Acquired: 2016 IFA
RuleV: On 40 Man Roster

Physical Description: Average height and lean throughout. Needs to add upper body strength, which has been a criticism since signing. Athletic kid.

Hit: Stands crouched and slightly open. Experimented with his bat position during 2020 Spring Training; began resting the bat on his shoulder rather than keeping his hands high and back. Minimal pre-pitch movement, which has been toned down significantly since signing. Moderate leg kick as he steps into the pitch. Has innate hand-eye coordination and a mostly level swing, but he inconsistently barrels the ball. Tends to get on top of the ball, which produces a significant amount of ground balls as a result. Above-average bat speed but lacks the physical strength to regularly impact the ball. Has strong bat-to-ball skills and fights through at-bats; can be a difficult out when he's not freely swinging. Can be overly aggressive at times. Comfortable with laying down a bunt and has the speed to beat the throw. Would do well to get the ball in the air with more regularity; without that, he'll produce an empty batting average. Tool could be better than average in time. Grade: 50

Power: Has fringe-average raw power, which he rarely gets to during games. He produces some natural loft when he drives the ball, and shows a feel for using the whole field, but he presently produces too many ground balls. Added strength would serve him well, as would barreling the ball more often. He flashes some gap power, but the power plays below that. Grade: 30

Field: Can cover a lot of ground quickly due to his footspeed. Has some work to do with recognition off the bat, but has the speed to overcome the misreads. It's plus range in CF. Can make some difficult plays in all directions and shows strong awareness as he backs up against the wall. Could be plus with further refinement. Grade: 55

Arm: Average arm with solid carry from the grass. Accurate with his throws. Plays in CF. Grade: 50

Run: Timed between 4.08 and 4.13 down the line from the left side. Has the speed to take an extra base on balls hit to the grass. Struggled with getting caught on the basepaths in 2019, but has the speed to steal double-digit bags. Needs to read the pitcher and get a better initial step. Grade: 60

Overall: Muzziotti carries a lot of intrigue because of whatever he could be. However, like many Phillies prospects through the years, he is underdeveloped physically. Added strength would do him well. He has the bat-to-ball skills to eventually be a high-average hitter, which when paired with his plus speed and potentially plus defense, produces a starter ceiling. Without the physical gains and the boost in power it might bring, he's a likely backup/defensive substitution.

Feb 2021 Report

Evaluator: Danny Brackman

Age: 24 yr
Height: 6-1
Weight: 187 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2014 IFA
RuleV: On 40 Man Roster

Physical Description: Slender athletic frame. Proportionally long limbs with a high waist and good strength in the lower half. Tapered torso suggests there's still some room to add muscle in the upper body without sacrificing functional mobility.

Delivery & Mechanics: Traditional windup. Brings arms overhead to activate core into a medium leg-kick and hip hinge. Relatively low effort delivery though good posture and strong rotation still generate solid arm speed. Somewhat inconsistent timing and direction with the front shoulder opening but generally does a fine job with repeatability. Slightly below average time to the plate from the stretch can be exploited by savvy runners.

Fastball: Sits 90-94 and tops 96. Will sink it and cut it depending on the situation. 4-seam has little life but does still tunnel decently with other offerings. Sinker shows good depth and arm-side run. Favors throwing to the glove side and does well getting it there but a lack of high velo and not much hop makes command essential. Not a big strikeout offering but should be good enough at producing weak contact. Grade: 50

Slider: 78-82 MPH sweeper with very high spin efficiency. Good axis keeps a true slider plane and results in massive glove-side break. Can add and subtract depth to give slightly different looks. Some mechanical inconsistency does result in pulling way into the LHH box at times but tons of break usually balances out the problems; will generate some ugly swings even on poorly located pitches. Grade: 55

Changeup: 85-88 with plus movement. Consistent arm speed and strong pronation help generate heavy sink and arm-side run. Shape mirrors slider very well. Has good feel and will regularly spot the change down and arm-side. Very good offering for collecting both whiffs and weak contact. Prefers to throw it to LHHs though movement does well tunneling with the sinker against RHHs. Grade: 60

Control and Command: Has above average feel staying around the zone with all three pitches. Heavy movement on secondary offerings makes them difficult to command but he does well enough. Likes to work off the edges so his misses tend to look worse than they actually are. Ability to manipulate spin and movement profiles shows confidence in the stuff. Control: 55 | Command: 45

Overall: After breaking out in the lower minors, Medina hasn't quite been able to take that next step forward when facing more advanced competition. Regardless, he's still shown a solid mix and good durability. His stuff could play up in the pen but he will likely have an opportunity to start a few games in 2021. If he wants to stick in the rotation, improving his fastball should be a point of emphasis.

Feb 2021 Report

Evaluator: Joe Doyle

Age: 23 yr
Height: 6-5
Weight: 240 lbs
Hits/Throws: L/L
Acquired: 2019 Round 4
RuleV: 2022

Physical Description: Long, well-built, sturdy build. Solid upper half, a bit thinner lower half. Tall frame, but has a slight muscular build with broad shoulders and strong legs. Prototypical starting pitcher build with durable physique. Miller will need to utilize his lower half a bit better if he's to get the most out of his large frame and get higher consistent readings on the radar gun.

Delivery & Mechanics: Upper-body heavy with some energy loss in the lower half. Arm action can get long as Miller tends to berak hands late and lacks elbow spiraling. Rhythm and timing in the delivery has been an issue and inconsistent for Miller in the past, though that seems to be cleaning itself up as he's become comfortable in pro ball.

Fastball: Generally a low-90s offering, up to 95. Miller's fastball has above average spin and does possess a good bit of hop as it reaches the plate. Shows a better ability to spot the pitch off the plate as opposed to pitching inside to lefties; more comfortable landing the heater glove-side. Command can waver and velo tends to dip after 60 or so pitches. Grade: 50

Slider: Low 80s breaking ball, up to 85. Gyro-heavy slider with great depth and tunnel off the fastball. Big swing and miss pitch. Devestating when ahead in the count. Hasn't shown the ability to pitch backwards. Slider success may be incumbent on strides taken with fastball command. Easy plus pitch when useable. Grade: 60

Changeup: Mid 80s offering, peaking at 86. Miller does an efficient job killing spin on the changeup and separation off the fastball is good. Has been more effective against lefties into their backfoot. Not a ton of depth on the pitch, but good fading life. Command is fringy, but can be an out-pitch to left-handed hitters. Not as effective in live looks against righties. Grade: 50

Control and Command: Command on the fastball will be the biggest question mark on Miller moving forward. The slider and changeup are both spotted with the propensity expected from secondary offerings, but too often he's found himself falling behind in counts and having to serve up a fastball to good hitters. Control: 45 | Command: 45

Overall: Miller is a very big, very strong left-handed pitcher. The body absolutely looks like it could withstand the rigors of starting at the next level, but he'll need to clean things up to reach that ceiling. Command is the biggest thing holding him back, as well as potentially a couple notches on the radar gun. The slider is a no-doubt swing-and-miss offering, especially playing off his high-spin fastball, but he'll need to show the ability to get ahead more in counts if he's to pitch more than an inning or so at a time.

Age: 24 yr
Height: 6-4
Weight: 175 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/L
Acquired: 2015 Round 5
RuleV: On 40-Man Roster

Physical Description: Long and lean frame with long arms. Lean, but not quite skinny. Wide shoulders and upper back; prominent butt. Some muscle on the frame, but room to fill out a bit more. Moves well, but not necessarily twitchy. Able to field his position well. Mopey demeanor on the mound when things aren't going his way; easily frustrated.

Delivery & Mechanics: Full windup; exaggerated pause at rock step before big leg kick that coils the torso and shifts hips upward. Drops and drives well, staying in the glutes as he comes down the mound. Long arm action, drops down behind the butt before coming through at a high 3/4 slot; hides the ball well. Average separation; arm on time. Whole operation has very deliberate feel; nothing explosive. Moderate effort with low finish. Pace quickens a touch from the stretch; leg kick stays high but moves quicker. Very concerned with runners at first, throws over frequently using different moves.

Fastball: 88-91, t93; Solid ride, tough for hitters to square up. Gets whiffs often up in the zone and can spot up on the corners occasionally for called strikes. Can use it as an out pitch to finish at-bats, especially if set up by a curveball. Deception helps it play up. Grade: 50

Curveball: 75-78; Nearly identical to the slider. Slightly more vertical shape, 1-7. Mirrors the fastball better than the slider. Average break, some tighter than others, flashes plus. Best ones are quick, sharp hammers that make hitters corkscrew, just can't repeat that quality often enough. Grade: 50

Slider: 80-82; Sweeping slider with solid sweep with a little depth. Average bite that flashes plus occasionally. Not used often, clear 4th pitch. Grade: 40

Changeup: 83-85; Solid fade and tumble. Good arm speed sells the pitch well. Could use more separation. Feel needs refinement, struggles with location. Floats occasionally. Grade: 45

Control and Command: Around the zone often but frequently misses spots. Spikes everything a bit too often, but also liable to leave offspeed pitches up, too. Typically works ahead and doesn't walk many. When he's dialed in, he fills up the zone and works efficiently, often on the edges. Has it more often than he doesn't. Control: 45 | Command: 40

Overall: Big lefty with a 4-pitch arsenal and decent command. Fastball and curve headline the offerings but the slider and changeup are usable, too. More of a sum of the parts type profile with neither the stuff nor command standing out. Stuff probably isn't good enough to stick as a backend arm, but likely a big league arm in long relief or low-leverage.

Age: 21 yr
Height: 6-2
Weight: 180 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2018 Round 6
RuleV: 2022

Physical Description: Muscular, athletic body. Ideal body type for a left side infielder. Confident movements that are loose and smooth.

Hit: Slightly open stance with a little crouch; hands high at the head with an athletic base. Small leg lift with uppercut swing providing average bat speed. Rotational swing using strength to find power. Aggressive in at bats, but may be too eager early in counts. Uppercut swing leads to less hits and more strikeouts, so he will have to learn to find a way on base more. His power will be an asset, but may be useless if he doesn't have better at bats. Grade: 30

Power: Simmons has good raw power, but struggles to present it in games. His power is very apparent when you see his frame and swing. It will be a strong asset in the future, but he needs to have better at bats to be able to show it off. Grade: 55

Field: Smooth rhythm from the left side of the diamond with generally soft hands. Always moving his feet in the infield both through and around the ball. Occasionally fielding is too loose - increased reps can prevent simple errors. Will need work tracking ball into glove as he progresses. Lots of room for potential improvement. Grade: 40

Arm: Solid arm across the field. Ball has good zip and accuracy as he works through the ball well. Ball shows carry - no struggle throwing from anywhere in the infield. Grade: 55

Run: Quick hustle on the basepaths. Gets out of the box well - good speed down the line. Average knowledge on base, likes to be aggressive and take another base if he can. Grade: 50

Overall: Simmons is built well for his position - a power hitting infielder. That power has been shown off many times through BP or in his extra base hits, but that power may be useless unless he can find more hits. His eager uppercut swings put him in a role of home run or bust, which could be ok as long as he finds other ways to get on base. A lot of grounder reps would be a good investment because he has potential to become a good fielder with the strength of his arm. He will be 21 rolling into the 2021 season, so he has time to work on his weaknesses, but needs to fix them soon to be a top rated prospect. His physical attributes show that there is a lot of potential if he's able to put it all together.

Evaluator: Jake Boes

Age: 23 yr
Height: 6-2
Weight: 195 lbs
Hits/Throws: L/R
Acquired: 2016 Round 1
RuleV: On 40 Man Roster

Physical Description: Athletic, sturdy frame. Vitals appear accurate; modest physical projection remaining throughout; could stand to add muscle in arms and legs. Squared shoulders, long arms, trim waist, with long and lean legs. Build reminds me of Joc Pederson; Moniak's grandfather, Bill, spent six years in the Red Sox organization.

Hit: Relaxed setup; feet away from the plate and slightly open; upright stance with only a slight bend at the knee; hips square, shoulders slightly closed with hands relaxed near the ear. Back elbow up, hands back, and stance closes upon load. Load and swing have some Bryce Harper attributes. Top hand struggles though; forcing lazy fly balls and roll-over grounders. An overall fringe-average hit tool; struggles with quality spin below the zone; pulls front shoulder off the ball at times; struggles to generate consistent leverage with the stroke. Punishes mistakes middle/middle. Shows a solid take-what's-given approach, but contact struggles apparent due to mechanical deficiencies. Grade: 40

Power: Below-average power; weak top hand coupled with spray approach limit the amount of over-the-fence power generated. Average raw the struggles to translate due to struggles with timing, especially with offspeed. Should generate enough gappers and perhaps double-digit home runs totals across a full season with the occasional opposite-field shot, but may struggle to reach average totals long-term considering his outfield position. Grade: 40

Field: Average defender; possibly a tick above-average in a corner but could stand at any spot in the grass. Bananas his routes at times on deep fly balls; glove is steady and reliable; shows instincts in the field. Robs the occasional hit but not likely to fill a highlight reel. Grade: 50

Arm: Average arm; makes all the throws necessary of an outfielder, but not a weapon from any spot. Shows solid over-the-top mechanics necessary for an outfield spot. Shows ability to hit the cut-offs with ease, but throws lack significant carry. Grade: 50

Run: 3.98-4.2 times home-to-first; above-average runner leveraging long legs to gallop around the bases; plus times currently but likely to lose a step as the body reaches physical maturity. Solid instincts on the bases; should have enough to take the extra base as necessary and turn in a handful of steals across a full season. Grade: 55

Overall: A former first overall pick, Moniak has failed to achieve the sky-high expectations that come with going so high in the draft. He is approaching his projection and will need to show he has everyday potential in 2021 in order to justify a starting spot moving forward. Unfortunately, his lagging hit tool and the lack of power will hinder his ability to find the lineup on a daily basis, but his solid secondary attributes in the field and on the bases should make for a solid lefty bench bat long-term.

Age: 17 yr
Height: 6-0
Weight: 180 lbs
Hits/Throws: L/R
Acquired: 2020 IFA
RuleV: 2025

Overall: The Venezuelan catching prospect signed with the Phillies for $1.2 million as part of their 2020 international class. Perez is a left-handed hitting catcher with an all-around skill set, projecting for average, or slightly better tools across the board while lacking a standout tool. The reports are strong defensively for Perez and he gets high marks for his receiving, footwork and demeanor. His bat-to-ball skills play more than his power at the moment, but the power is coming. He's shown flashes offensively and has all the ingredients to become a future big league regular behind the plate. It comes with extreme risk though.

Height: 6-0
Weight: 210 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2018 IFA
RuleV: 2023

Overall: The prize of the Phillies 2018 international class, Castillo is a physically mature right-hander that was popping 97 before he could legally drive here in the United States. The Phillies signed the Dominican flamethrower to a $1.6 million dollar contract and he moved quickly enough to get into a handful of GCL games towards the end of the 2019 season. Castillo could potentially have two plus pitches in the fastball and slider, but he lacks a third pitch at the moment and his command is poor. Castillo looks nearly maxed out and any physical projection looks like it's more on the negative side. It comes with extreme risk, but Castillo has a big arm worthy of an important role on a pitching staff.

Overall: Garcia was signed back in March prior to the covid shutdown and is considered to be part of the 2020 class. The Venezuelan prospect was set to be part of the 2019 class for the Phillies but had to sit out a year for a discrepancy about his age. Garcia is a tooled up prospect with a skillset that fits near the top of a lineup and in centerfield. His defense and athleticism are his calling cards. He covers a ton of ground and has a strong arm and the plus run times that come with that archetype. He will use all fields with a line drive oriented approach. He has good plate skills and a short quick stroke meant more for contact than driving the ball. Power is a question mark, but he's a gap to gap threat at the moment with room to add strength to his game.

Evaluator: Tyler Henninger

Age: 22 yr
Height: 5-9
Weight: 170 lbs
Hits/Throws: S/R
Acquired: 2015 IFA
RuleV: On 40 Man Roster

Physical Description: Short, compact frame. Strong, thick lower half. Fair upper body muscular development. Excellent flexibility. Not body type to add more weight or strength.

Hit: Slightly open stance with hands letter high stretched back toward catcher from the left side. Hands at head and closer to body from the right side. Slightly crouched with wider base from the left side and more shoulder width apart from the right. Minimal hand load with slight barrel wrap and hitch. Sizeable leg kick timing mechanism, eliminates with two-strikes. Good weight transfer, loads backside well. Average bat speed with linear bat path. Uses the entire field. Line drive approach with exceptional bat to ball skills. Advanced approach, good strike zone awareness and pitch recognition. Innate ability to make solid contact. Line drive machine. Better from the left side. Grade: 50

Power: Below-average raw power, well-below average game power. Bat path and approach hinder ability to lift ball. Very little homerun potential. Shows ability to spray hard hit line drives to gap. Future power will be of XBH variety. Grade: 30

Field: Plus defender with ability to receive and block balls. Makes it look easy. Soft hands, firm wrists allow for quality framing. Sticks low pitch well. Solid, flexible base. Provides good target. Good body control, quiet. Above average blocking ability. Moves side to side exceptionally well. Shows leadership and ability to handle pitching staff. Grade: 60

Arm: Above average arm with proper throwing mechanics. Carries through the bag when on top, slight tail occasionally. On the money most of the time. Quick transfer and short release. Advanced footwork with good body control. Throws out good runners. Grade: 60

Run: Below-average runner, but moves decent for a catcher. Short, choppy steps. Some stiffness in lower body. Gets out of the box decently with average acceleration. Uses instincts to make up for lack of speed, can still score from second and take the occasional extra base. Grade: 40

Overall: Marchan is exactly what you want from a catcher. He is exceptional behind the plate with the ability to frame, block, and lead a pitching staff. His quick release and advanced footwork allow him to throw out a lot of good base stealers. With the bat he will never be a homerun threat, likely will rarely hit any, but he can still have an impact on the offensive side. He has the ability to spray line drives all over the field from both sides of the plate. He rarely strikes out due to his advanced approach and pitch recognition skills. His speed is below-average but uses his instincts to get everything he can out of it. If the bat provides enough value, Marchan could be an average everyday catcher, but the glove alone will allow him to at least be a quality backup.

Feb 2021 Report

Evaluator: Ian Smith

Age: 20 yr
Height: 5-11
Weight: 190 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2019 Round 3
RuleV: 2023

Physical Description: Slim build with plenty of projection remaining in the upper half. High waisted with long arms. Will make his 5'11" frame play a lot bigger with elite athleticism.

Hit: Pure hitter. Baylor operates out of a narrow, open stance. Standing in a near upright position with his hand below the ears preload then as he starts his swing, hands dip slightly with the barrel dropped to his shoulder. Hands stay back while he incorporates a small, quick leg trigger to keep everything on time. Shows advanced body control throughout his swing with minimal wasted effort in his lower half. Bat speed is just average, but will create plus acceleration from a bat path that's optimized for future power. Will need to monitor how he handles plus velocity going forward with his swing path. Grade: 50

Power: Baylor will tap into some unexpected pull side pop. Natural loft and barrel acceleration allow him to impact the ball for exit velos north of 105. Above average foot speed will help to his overall power profile with added XBHs. If Baylor can grow into more bat speed as he develops, then there's a chance for a plus tool here. Grade: 55

Field: Baylor's actions in the dirt are as smooth as you'll find. Will show advanced footwork and quickness moving in both directions with extended range. Will field the ball out in front and use extremely quick and soft hands on the transfer. Rarely will look overmatched and has the confidence to make every play on the field. Grade: 55

Arm: Keeps a consistent arm angle on his throws with easy, natural strength. Clocked 90MPH across the diamond going into the draft, with likely more to come as he fills out. Will get consistent carry on his throws with consistent accuracy. Arm talent is a true plus tool, and with even more to come down the line. Has even touched 93 on the mound in high school. Grade: 60

Run: Clocked as a sub-6.6 runner in the 60. Baylor will get out of the box quickly, and reaches top speed with ease. Keeps his body under control while using his entire frame to stride out, covering ground with ease. Grade: 55

Overall: Baylor gives you the solid foundation of an above average glove at a premium position, combined with plus speed and a chance for impactful power. After exploding his draft spring (he nursed an arm injury during his pre-draft summer) Baylor had a shot to vault his prospect status in 2020 with another strong performance. However, with the canceled minor league season his lost development time in 2020 "potentially" has added some risk to the profile. The player oozes potential and a 2021 breakout is possibly in the cards. We just need to see more before pushing him to a projected everyday role.

Evaluator: Jake Kerns

Age: 20 yr
Height: 6-1
Weight: 165 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2018 IFA
RuleV: 2022

Physical Description: Average height. Lean build with some remaining physical projection. High waisted. Athletic. High IQ player.

Hit: Stands tall and open. Hands stay out front. Keeps his weight on his back leg as he loads. Moderate leg kick as he steps into the pitch. Well-timed swing that produces above-average bat speed. Mostly linear swing that creates line drive contact, but he does attack the ball from a downward plane at times. At its best, it's a quick, efficient stroke that gets to the ball in a hurry. Beginning to lift the ball, but has produced more ground outs than fly outs in two abbreviated minor league seasons. Shows an average eye on pitches out of the zone. Can be aggressive at the plate, but has good feel for the barrel and does not strike out often. Added patience and pitch selection in the box would serve him well. His speed helps the tool play up. Grade: 45

Power: Above-average raw power that mostly plays as gap power during games. Ball jumps off the bat during BP. Generates a lot of linedrive contact to the shallow and middle parts of the grass. Those balls will begin to carry as he physically matures and better barrels the ball. He has a quick bat and already creates a good amount of natural loft off the bat. There's future average or better power in his bat if he continues to develop. Grade: 45

Field: Shows fluid actions in the grass. Quick out of his breaks and takes good routes. Can cover a lot of ground and has above-average or better range in CF. Has experience with all three outfield positions, but may fit best in RF as he physically matures and loses a step. Grade: 55

Arm: Strong arm with good carry from the grass. High release point. Regularly hits the cutoff man and has enough arm strength to throw runners out across the infield. Grade: 55

Run: Plus runner; timed 4.17 down the line from the right side. Can take an extra base on balls hit to the grass. Keeps his head on a swivel on the basepaths. Hustles and plays all out. Quick out of his breaks and is a legitimate stolen base threat. Actively wants to take a base. Could steal double digit bags at the next level. Grade: 60

Overall: Rojas is one of the more tooled up players in the Phillies system. He's yet to hit full-season ball, but there's growing excitement with what he could become. If Rojas maxes out, he's an above-average regular and someone that could contribute in all facets of the game. For now, he simply needs to further mature and turn those raw tools into skills.

Evaluator: Isaiah Burrows

Age: 20 yr
Height: 5-11
Weight: 170 lbs
Hits/Throws: S/R
Acquired: 2017 IFA
RuleV: 2021

Physical Description: Short and slender build lacking standout features. Wiry, athletic frame with long legs. More room for added muscle and weight as he matures. Has the physical tools to become a top-end athlete.

Hit: Active load and swing path from both sides of the plate. Hands stay well above the letters and legs stay shoulder width apart. Lots of pre-pitch movement in his hands and feet, doesn't stay set in the box. Developed a leg kick within his load to calm his approach for better contact and pitch recognition. Quick hands produce solid contact to all fields. Aggressive first-pitch swinger. Punishes fastballs in the zone, struggles mightily with off-speed stuff. Looks more comfortable from the right side, but has untapped potential in switch-hitting ability. Tools are present, lacks a refined approach. Grade: 50

Power: Struggles to hit for consistent power at this stage in his development. Lacks in-game and raw power, showed more glimpses last season. Doesn't pull the ball effectively well. Room for more power as he matures physically. Has the tools and physical ability to produce more XBH and homers. Grade: 30

Field: Has a great feel for his defensive ability. Has a smooth and quick glove-to-hand transfer. Covers ground with his athleticism. Shows the ability to play on the dirt long term. Good instincts, plays the ball consistently and effectively. Stays on his toes, turns double plays with ease. Plus tool with his overall makeup defensively. Grade: 60

Arm: Above-average arm strength and accuracy from the infield. Throws are crisp with great zip and touch.Makes difficult throws from awkward angles. Makes throws from either side in part to his strong arm. Near plus tool that bodes well for his defensive fit. Grade: 55

Run: Above-average speed and quickness. Has a good burst out of the box, translates well defensively. Lacks long strides, but has short bursts of acceleration. Has the top-end speed to steal bags. Aggressive base stealer, needs to slow down and perfect his jump to make the most of his athleticism and base-stealing ability. Grade: 55

Overall: One of the most highly touted 2018 international signings, Garcia's array of tools continue to develop. He has a true defensive skill set with crisp fielding and a near plus-grade arm. His offensive approach and ability to tap into more consistent contact and power need to improve to fulfill his sky-high ceiling.

Evaluator: Geoff Pontes

Age: 21 yr
Height: 6-4
Weight: 190 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2016 IFA
RuleV: On 40 Man Roster

Physical Description: Tall, lean, long levers, with remaining projection throughout the frame. Broad shouldered, looks bigger than listed weight but very strong frame. Bigger righthander.

Delivery & Mechanics: Semi-windup; drop and drive delivery; 3/4 arm slot; long arm action; moderate leg lift timing mechanism that closes off his frontside; does not repeat consistently; easy operation; glute dominant operation.

Fastball: 93-95 mph; touch 96-97 mph at peak; cuts the pitch, higher raw spin with inefficient shape, lacks true backspin. Despite mid-90s velocity the pitch doesn't miss many bats and tends to get squared up too frequently. Commands the upper quadrants better than the lower. His ability to land the pitch low and inside will be a differentiator, unfortunately he has yet to master the art of pitching inside. Grade: 50

Slider: 82-85 mph; late break and depth; slurvy break with 11-7 shape. Shows the ability to manipulate the pitch for wipeout shape. Plus swing and miss offering that controls hard contact. Will double and triple up in the pitch when he's locked in. Average control and command of the pitch. Grade: 60

Changeup: Straight changeup, 86-87 mph with late run on the offerings he gets around. Mostly used early in counts as a change of pace. Developed better feel as 2019 went on. Below average at present, but shows glimpses of a third pitch. Grade: 40

Control and Command: Fringe average control, that comes and goes. Some innings Morales will lock in and live around the zone, others he'll lose complete feel altogether. Fastball and slider command come and go. Some days he'll struggle to locate gloveside and others armside. No consistency to his command problems. Lots of movement on slider leads to difficulty locating with repetitive success. Control: 45 | Command: 40

Overall: An explosive but enigmatic arm talent with plus stuff but a below average command+control profile. Development of his command will be the most important step for Morales in 2021. If he shows the ability to consistently throw strikes with his fastball+slider combination there's a very real shot Morales could develop into a number four or five starter. If he's able to improve his command and develop his changeup there's mid-rotation upside. A wide range of outcomes from mid-rotation arm to average high leverage reliever. Ultimately his plus velocity and plus secondary give him a comfortable floor between number five starter and high leverage relief.

Feb 2021 Report

Evaluator: Geoff Pontes

Age: 23 yr
Height: 6-3
Weight: 200 lbs
Hits/Throws: L/R
Acquired: 2019 Round 1
RuleV: 2022

Physical Description: Strong, broad-shouldered build, slightly above average height. Physically mature, unlikely to add much additional mass.

Hit: Open stance, slight bend in back knee, hands set by back shoulder, moderate leg kick with steep bat angle at the point of contact. Stott shows the ability to adjust and manipulate the bat head depending on pitch location. Takes what the pitcher gives him and doesn't sell out for power. Works deep into counts, plus on base skills, approach will border on passive, taking more looking strikes than you'd like. Will swing and miss on elevated velocity up in the zone. Above average tool buoyed by approach and contact skills. Grade: 55

Power: Good bat angle and the ability to turn on pitches on the inner-half, Stott has strength but his physicality has yet to fully materialize in game. It's mostly pullside power, but it's driven by his bat path and steep angle more than hard contact. In other words his swing path drives his heavy flyball approach. Reports from the ATS are promising with hope this grade can push into above average territory in a years time. Average game power with some hope for more long term Grade: 50

Field: Average shortstop defender, lacks range but his instincts, first step and actions are all strong. Likely lacks the athleticism for the position long term but he could develop into an above average third baseman or second baseman. Definitely an infielder long term that could have some value in his ability to cover multiple positions. Grade: 50

Arm: Strong but sometimes wild arm. Struggles with consistency of release and doesn't have the sort of athleticism to make quality jump throws. Enough arm strength for third base should his below average athleticism move him there. Grade: 55

Run: Average runner that will reach above average top speeds underway. Good base runner, shows smart instincts and the ability to steal a base when needed. Grade: 50

Overall: Average tools or better across the board with no standout skill outside his on base ability. Should provide a potential leadoff type skill set despite not being a burner. Strong all-around offensive game with some projection possibly remaining in his power. He's on the cusp of an above average role, due to a combination of skills, but lacks the power or plus defensive profile at shortstop to get there. A strong everyday player likely at third base long term.
